Le Tresor Caché
About the home
This Village house itself is astounding. From the street side, it is practically unnoticeable as it has been designed to appear ordinary. Once inside, you will immediately understand this as a protective trick of camouflage. The house spreads out and evinces the elegance of the privileged classes with spacious rooms and elegant features. Walk through the house and onto its wide terrace that offers gracious outdoor living, and look out on the expansive and well-designed garden, down a broad and inviting staircase.
The house offer 5 bedrooms, including a wonderful Master, with a hand-painted, tiled bath area, and three bathrooms, and two additional separate toilets. There is a wonderful living room with fireplace, a beautiful painted dining-room with coffered ceiling, and a delightful well-equipped eat-in kitchen. The Languedoc-Roussillon / Gard region
Nearby Uzes is one of the most historic of Provencal towns, one of the most beautiful, and one of the best preserved. Its market is famed all over France. Don't miss it, for the best of French local produce, homemade jams, charcuterie, local tapenades, spices, cheeses, and much more. There is also a Sunday antique market which is exceptional.
The town is a collection of Medieval to Renaissance Masterpieces, and reflects the history of its Duchy as well as some eminent characters such as the poet and dramatist Jean Racine (1639-99), and Andre Gide, the literature Nobelist of 1947. A stroll through the town reveals many gems. The three centres of local power still confront each other, in the form of the King’s Tower, the Duke’s Tower and the Bishop’s Tower. The Palaces of these notables and the mansions of others demonstrate the economic prosperity of Uzes, based on the production of linen, serge and silk. The impressive Place aux Herbes in the centre of town, a medieval asymmetrical square with covered walkways and enormous plane trees, was significantly altered in the 17th and 18th centuries, and is a joy to behold, even when the Saturday morning market is not in place.
There are good restaurants in the town, as well as in the surrounding villages, and the shops and artisan’s workshops are as good as can be found anywhere in France. Uzes has easy access to other notable sites, from the magnificent Roman Pont du Gard, to the sites of Castillon du Gard, L’Isle-sr-la-Sorgue, Avign
The Uzes / St Siffret area
St. Siffret is a tiny and charming hill-side hamlet a few kilometres from Uzes. Many of the homes have been beautifully preserved, and carefully restored. There are a few small shops, a cafe, a bar, and a restaurant. It is a pleasure to stroll its historic streets and walk to its neighbouring villages. It is also possible to walk to Uzes, for its world-class market, wonderful shops, and excellent (of course) restaurants. There is a 9 hole golf course in Uzès itself, plus larger greens in both Nimes and Avignon. Tennis courts and horse riding Are nearby.. There is even hot air ballooning in a local village! A wonderful experience is to canoe down the River Gardon and under the monumental Pont du Gard.
