About this location
The Balearic Islands region
Menorca is the second largest of the Balearic islands, but is smaller and quieter than its neighbour, Mallorca. It has many family orientated resorts and, surprisingly, has as many beaches as Mallorca and Ibiza combined.
Most of the holiday resorts are on the south side of the island, but there is more variety on the north. The walled capital, Mahon (or Mao) is situated at the end of an enormous natural harbour and further north are a string of quiet fishing villages as well as resorts such as Arenal D'En Castell and the yachting centre of Fornells.
Menorca has a current population of around 68,000 which is more than doubled during the holiday season. It has been largely sheltered from the effects of development and maintains its history and culture. Each Menorcan town has an annual fiesta which takes place on or near the day of its Patron Saint ,all of which are celebrated between June and September. The fiestas last on average for 3 days and the townsfolk consider this as a holiday with only the bars and restaurants remaining open. Stunningly groomed horses play a chief part in the fiesta.
Menorca has a typical Mediterranean climate, with mild winters and hot summers. During July and August there are up to 11 hours of sunshine every day, with temperatures normally reaching 28ºC - 30º (82ºF - 86ºF). Temperatures in May/June and September/October are more commonly in the range 20ºC - 26ºC.
Arenal d'en Castell
“Just 20 kms north of Mahon amongst an attractive area of rocky headlands and distant hills is the picturesque resort of Arenal d’en Castell. Stretching around a wide bay, Arenal has been built above a huge crescent of butter yellow sand, lapped by the clear blue waters of the Mediterranean. The beach is where most people spend their days, lazing in the sunshine, swimming in the warm waters or cruising across the wave on windsurfers or pedaloes. By the beach there are some good restaurants and beach bars for lunch, quick snacks or cold drinks when the sun gets too hot.
In the evenings the restaurants behind the beach come alive and offer a superb range of food, enough to cater for everyone's taste or pocket. There are also several shops to browse around"

"Great short break"
The apartment is in the most amazing location - right by the sea! It's a bit of a steep walk down to get to it, so maybe not for the elderly, but such a lovely view from the balcony straight out to the Med. Furnishings were excellent - modern kitchen, good sized lounge, and big TV. East access to good restaurants just along the beach.

"Totally relaxing holiday"
Well equipped, light, airy apartment. Always clean and well presented. The apartment is directly above the beach with extensive views over the sea. The easy access to the beach makes it ideal for families with children.
The highlight is undoubtedly the balcony. Parts of this are in the shade all day and all meals can be taken here. The views across the bay are stunning and being able to live outside almost all the time makes for a totally relaxing holiday.
We have stayed here eight times and met other people who return to Arenal year after year. Highly recommended.

"Perfect hassle free holiday with 3 young kids!"
I booked the holiday easily with a phone call and then booked my flights equally easily. The journey from Gatwick to the resort in Menorca was unbelievably easy, even with 3 kids of 1, 4, and 7 years. We received good advice on how to get to the resort but a map just to show exactly where the appartment was would have saved us a bit of time.
The appartment itself was brilliant - spotless, very well furnished (even with books, coffee and teabags and most importantly buckets, spades and inflatables etc) The kitchen was great to cook in and the balcony was amazing, we could have paid thousands of pounds to get the view of the sea that we did from being in the line of appartments closest to the beach!
Everyone in the resort was friendly, the kids made friends straight away and the local bars and restaurants were very good and very child-friendly.
The beach was very clean and very safe. We spent the entire week on the beach and enjoyed every moment, especially early evening when it was quiet. Even at its busiest, the beach did not seem overcrowded. We did feel the need to hire a car, but did use the local bus for a trip to Mahon. Next year we plan to stay for 2 weeks and perhaps hire a car to do a few day trips.
