Lovely quiet cottage situated in an elevated position on the old Roman Road out of Weymouth leading to Dorchester. Some views leading to Weymouth are accessible from the outdoor elevated sun terrace. The Ridge way is no longer a through road and apart from the 16th century public house 40 meters across the road it is a most peaceful retreat.
The property benefits from only being 20 years old however there are many features which give it an original feel from perhaps 200 years ago. These include oak beams, wooden floors, worn flag stones, open fireplace etc.
It contains 4 bedrooms arranged over 3 floors, one being an en-suite loft room with restricted headroom. This can be arranged as a double or twin. There are a further 2 double bedrooms on the first floor one containing a king sized double, and a slightly smaller third bedroom containing a standard size double bed. The property can facilitate up to 8 when at full capacity. A main bathroom on this floor has a shower / bath arrangement. Downstairs there is a comprehensive kitchen, lounge/diner, entrance lobby and further WC. All areas are well finished and furnished. The kitchen is fully fitted with concealed appliances. Integrated washing machine, dishwasher, fridge and freezer are available. A 5 ring glass hob and electric fan assisted oven are included with a further combination microwave oven set at head height complimenting the cooking facilities. Everything is available for 6 to 8 people to enjoy this little hideaway. Warm weather will allow Al Fresco dining in the rear garden area where 8 or more can easily be accommodated for meals and use of the supplied BBQ.
Parking for 2 cars on the driveway is available. Visitors becoming avid patrons of the local Pub (The Old Ship Inn) over the road will be welcomed to use their free car park. Further on street parking is available for car owners with good handbrakes!!!!. Our village isn't called 'Upwey' without reason. Some outdoor secure storage areas are available for bicycles and sporting equipment with 2 mountain bikes often being available for use.
The surrounding areas allow some beautiful walks and cycling into the Dorset countryside. Weymouth town centre is 4 miles away and contains a beautiful harbour, beach and sea front. Dorchester our famous Roman county town is also 4 miles away in the opposite direction. Both towns are have good public transport (rail and bus) links from Upwey.
With some good weather to enjoy the outdoor areas 'Vitality Cottage' is a most relaxing gem set in a quiet Dorset village. For winter bookings the property has the advantage of modern warm and damp free construction, double glazing, central heating throughout and a traditional open fire (gas) in the living room which all bodes well for cosy days and nights reading or in front of the flat-screen TV's (3 in total) and state of the art entertainment and computer system in the lounge
Whatever the season our village has plenty of hospitality to offer on its doorstep or more widely in the local towns and countryside.
*Please note that the stairs to the loft are quite steep and are offset paddle stairs which might not be suitable for the elderly or very young children unless accompanied.

The Dorset region
Over half the Dorset County is designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty and three-quarters of its coastline is a World Heritage Site that features notable landforms such as Lulworth Cove, the Isle of Portland, Chesil Beach and Durdle Door. Dorset has a varied landscape featuring broad elevated chalk downs, steep limestone ridges and low-lying clay valleys. There are no motorways in Dorset but a network of A roads cross the county and two railway main lines connect to London. Dorset has ports at Poole, Weymouth and Portland and an international airport at Bournemouth. The county has a variety of museums, theatres and festivals, and is host to one of Europe's largest outdoor shows. It is the birthplace of Thomas Hardy, who used the county as the principal setting of his novels. There is a wide range of activity and entertainment opportunities within the county accounting for almost everyone's taste.
The property is located in the picturesque Conservation Area village of Upwey . It was a favourite venue for Thomas Hardy the writer and offers quiet walks from various bridleways into stunning Dorset scenery. Many dedicated paths and cycle ways can be accessed directly from the property. There are two good pubs locally with one almost on the door step offering fine food and ales. The Upwey Wishing Well tea rooms, a short 10 minute walk away and set in pretty and tranquil gardens offer home made meals, cakes and Dorset cream teas all year round. Weymouth's golden sandy beach, shopping centre, gourmet restaurants and colourful historic harbour are a mere 10 minute car or bus ride away. The award winning sandy beach and town centre has all the traditional seaside attractions in and around its Georgian Esplanade as well as a picture postcard harbour with fine dining and pleasant evening walks adjacent to the moorings. Weymouth is one of the busiest and most visited tourist towns on the South Coast during the months of July and August and hosted the 2012 Olympic sailing events. It is renowned for its sailing heritage.
The property also lies within 150 meters of the main bus route between Weymouth and Dorchester and also walking distance of the local Upwey train station which is ideal for anyone without transport wishing to discover further afield and all that the county has to offer. The rolling hills of Dorset and the acclaimed Jurassic coastline - a rambler's paradise are all within easy reach.

"Shhhhhh! Dont tell anyone"
This is a great place to stay in Dorset. You have the quiet setting of Upwey but with the local activities just down the road. The house was superb and enough for the 4 of us. The host , could not be more genuine and honest. I would like to keep this place a secret but I would be doing this place a dishonour as it is a great house in a very good location. We look forward to visit Weymouth again. Thank you again.

"excellent experience of staying"
Property located very close to Weymouth beach, about 5min drive; also close to supermarket, very convenient. Owner is very friendly, house is super clean and have home feeling. Great place to stay if you plan your holiday in Weymouth.

This was a great getaway from our busy life. We were totally unwound in this house with every convenience we could wish for. There was privacy at the rear to be able to dine in the evening or to go to one of the local restaurants in town. The beach was a short drive away and we were able to see all the local sights as well as walking in the countryside. The local supermarket was close by and there was a daily fresh fish market by the quay side It was exceptionally clean and well maintained and would certainly go back there and recommend to our friends
