The Old Threshing Barn
from £38 /night help
Barn | 2 bedrooms | sleeps 6
Situated in Exmoor National Park the property, a former threshing barn built in natural stone, was converted to a holiday let in August 2014. All ground floor, the Barn has a wonderfully evocative view out across Wimbleball lake that is just 100 metres from your door. There is direct access to the lake across private land. Open beams and a four poster bed make this a lovely romantic retreat. For the more adventurous, just half a mile away, there is windsurfing, kayaking, sailing and fly-fishing available from the South West Lakes Water Sports Centre. As well as a four poster bed the master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom. There is a twin bedroom and a full size double sofa bed (in the lounge) which can between them accommodate up to a further four guests.
The property is located on a working farm and guests are welcome to join in with farming activities throughout the year. The surrounding area has much to offer from the dramatic Exmoor coastline, wonderful open moorland and wooded walks to the beaches of the Devon and Somerset Coast.
The property has its own private garden with a picnic table and parasol as well as the all important BBQ. Sky TV and a log effect fire make this a really cosy retreat.
One well behaved dog (with responsible owner) is also accepted. For those of you interested in the Iron Man Event the barn is approximately 10 mins walk from the start line.
There is no Wi-Fi but internet access can be arranged on request if you need to check emails etc. All bed linen and towels are supplied weekly and are included in the cost.
In the field adjacent to the Old Threshing Barn is a small quiet campsite for tents only, so if you have a larger party you may want to enquire about camping.

"Peaceful, rural location if a little remote!"
My family and I stayed here for a few days as a last-minute short getaway before our new addition arrives. The accommodation is newly refurbished and Brian and his wife were fantastic, welcoming hosts. The garden, backing onto the campsite, lacks a little privacy, however the view over the lake is stunning and it was great to have access to be able to walk around it.
Local amenities are a little sparse as you would expect from the idyllic location, so don't forget to stop en route for supplies! Having said this, there is a pub at Brompton Regis, a short drive away, which does excellent food, and there is a village shop there too although be warned this shuts daily at 1. Pullhams Mill on the road to the farm is an absolutely essential visit for their cream tea, beautiful wares and hospitality.
There was absolutely no Internet access or mobile network around the whole location so be aware of this if you are needing gps directions or intend to book activities whilst staying at the barn.
