The Paphos District

A fascinating blend of endless coastline of sandy coves and beaches washed gently by clear blue waters, makes Cyprus and more particularly Paphos and ideal holiday destination. In ancient times Paphos was the capital of Cyprus and lies in an area of incredible natural beauty.

The island's position in the eastern Mediterranean at the crossroads between east and west, has influenced its development through the centuries providing it with history dating back to 6,000 B.C. Consequently there many archaeological ruins to see.

Travel a little way from the coast into the pine forests; an hour's drive in the winter for skiing in the Troodos Mountains; experience a kaleidoscope of colours in the springtime; shake hands with its people whose reputation for good food and hospitality is worldwide and you'll want to stay forever.

The air temperatures range from 10-20 degree C off-season up to 25-35 degree C in the summer season. Cyprus is +3 hours from last Sunday in March to Saturday before last Sunday in October, otherwise it is +2 hours from GMT.

Universal District

The charming and historic town of Paphos, with its picturesque harbour and many ancient sites, has become the most popular resort in Cyprus. The town is expanding rapidly and attracts many visitors throughout the year, so the choice of entertainment and restaurants is endless.

Shopping and sports facilities are excellent and the island's first three full size golf courses operate in the Paphos area. The area also contains many of the archaeological treasures of Cyprus that are included in the official UNESCO World Cultural Heritage list. The spectacular coastline around Paphos is unparalleled and the whole area is in a wonderful position for exploring the unspoiled Akamas peninsula and the Troodos Mountains.

Kato Pafos is the area that most people associate with as this is the area close to the harbour and fort and it attracts thousands of visitors each year, this makes it an ideal location for your holiday in the sun.

Paphos is ideal for combining the pleasures of sightseeing with some relaxing beach life and boasts a fascinating old town of winding alleyways, markets and shops. The town is really divided into two - a quaint fishing harbour and an atmospheric Old Town, both are relaxing and beautifully unhurried. Nearby is the popular and pretty harbourside area, guarded by a looming Venetian Fort and bordered by numerous open air terraced restaurants, cafes and bars where you can catch your breath inbetween bouts of sightseeing. The Old Town is a real shopping emporium made up of narrow street housing numerous stores and a lively market to roam around. Culturally Paphos has much to keep you occupied, with plenty of ancient historical sites and monuments to explore such as the awesome Tomb of the Kings and ancient mosaics, close by. There's also the chance to savour some Cypriot legend at Aphrodite's Rock, where the goddess of Love was believed to have been born from the seas.

If you feel like hitting the beach, there are a number of small sandy bays dotted in and around the town, many of which offer water sports and scuba-diving. The best curve of golden sand is at Coral Bay, a short bus ride away. Make sure you get back into town for the evening though, the harbour bars and fish restaurants are the perfect place for a lazy supper and ideal for discussing your day's discoveries. There's also the opportunity to check-out the Bouzouki clubs and bars scattered around the harbour where you will find a good supply of night-time activity, these are certain to see you through until the early morning.

"Lovely apartment and swimming pool in a peaceful area"

Diana gardens apartments are in a nice friendly peaceful area and not that far from Paphos shops and beach and the lovely harbour. The apartment was clean, tidy and had all what you needed in it, there was sun loungers for you to use so you could chill out by the excellent pool. The balcony to the apartment was nice to sit out on in the evening as the outside pool was all lit up and looked beautiful. I would recommend these apartments to anyone as we had a fabulous time there and look forward to going back in the near future.

"Very well appointed, very clean, excellent pool, quiet, parking"

Very clean. nice bedroom and balcony, well furnished, well equipped kitchen, TV, DVD player. Good air con. (Cyprus is currently just outside the satellite footprint, so only news programmes, Pick tv , BBC Radio1-5 and oddities). Good quiet pool, own pool furniture, great library adjacent to pool, lots of books, DVDs available. Mostly Brits. Bus stop fairly close. No immediate shops It's about a mile or so away from the beach, and from Paphos itself, bit far to walk on a hot day, so we hired a car at the airport for a week. Finding it is easy: Turn Left out of the airport, drive North to a T junction, turn Left on the main road (not the motorway ) towards Paphos, keep going until you reach a roundabout with a big fountain in the middle ('Debenhams roundabout). Turn Left (South) down the hill to the Traffic Lights. Turn Right, you will see the block on your right and after 100 metres or so turn right up the hill, turn Right and right again to Diana apartments. Park in the road, or there is an entrance into the blocks on the west side. Initial shopping- back to Debenhams roundabout, turn left, there's a kiosk on the Right and a supermarket and a Kentucky Fried chicken if you are desperate. Car hire. Extra insurance costs you more at the airport. The car hire petrol is expensive, and you have to return the car empty, so if you don't go too far it's pricey. I suspect you can get a bargain in Paphos.

"Diana Gardens super apartment in quiet surroundings"

Because of the walk (about 30 minutes) into the harbour area where most of the restaurants and shops are, not suitable for people with walking difficulties. There is a local bus service, but times are a bit iffy. Well appointed apartment where you can relax. We have been here four times now and can recommend it.

"Great place with everything we needed!"

Had a great stay in a very comfy apartment which was equipped with everything we needed! Would advise hiring a car as the best beaches are outside of Paphos!

"Well furnished appartment in a beautiful complex"

The appartment was very spacious considering it is only one bedroom, the kitchen and lounge area are open plan and have patio doors opening onto the large balcony area which overlooks the pool. The bedroom was equally impressive with plenty of wardrobe space and lots of hangers provided, it also has patio doors onto the balcony. The kitchen is well stocked with pots, pans, crockery and all the utensils you need for a self catering vacation. The complex itself was very clean and well maintained, the pool was crystal clear and my children aged 6 and 7 spent most of the day playing in it. Sun loungers and a parasol are provded for sole use of the appartment so no getting up early to secure them, always a bonus ! The complex is about 1.5km from the busy Paphos areas but with two small children this was an advantage as it was very peaceful and relaxing away from all the noise and bars etc. Within a 10 minute walk there are a number of excellent restaurants that cater for most tastes. If you want to venture into the harbour area there is a bus stop across the road from the complex with buses running frequently. All in all a wonderfull relaxing holiday in lovely surroundings.
