The Istria region
Istria is the largest and most western peninsula of the Adriatic counties in Croatia. Special for its indented coast, green and pristine interior, vineyards, olive groves and orchards, medieval towns; nearby mountains. Thanks to the care of the natural resources the peninsula offers a range of natural attractions, there are a large number of cultural sights and museums. It is rich in events throughout the year and offers sports facilities on open and closed areas. Unavoidable are the Istrian taverns and rural households that are serving unique specialties and quality wines(malvazija, teran...) and extra virgin olive oils.

WHAT TO SEE IN UMAG:
• Church of St Mary from the XV century whit its decorated frescoes;
• Church of St.Rok, which was built in 1507, after the outbreak of the plague;
• Church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary and Church of St.Pelegrine that is the patron of the city. Every year the day of St.Pelegrine is celebrated on May 23;
• Liberty Square, in the central part of the city;
• City walls and defensive towers;
• Museum of the City of Umag;
• Remains of a large Roman villa found in Katoro.
Umag has a great selection of beaches. The beaches that dominate are those with gravel and stone slabs, but there are sandy beaches as well.
SPORTS AND RECREATION:
Umag is the first tennis destination in Croatia and on the Mediterranean. There are over 60 tennis courts, where recreational tennis can be played and the are also many tennis schools. Each year, many tournaments are held involving the world's best players. The most famous among them is the International ATP Studena Croatia Open.
In addition to the large number of tennis courts Umag offers attractive opportunities for other sports as well. The proximity of cycling paths is an inevitable treat for fans of cycling. Running and hiking trails lead up from Umag to Bujština, and there are other paths along the seaside. There is also the possibility of diving thanks to the clear blue sea and rich flora and fauna, for hunting and fishing, for waterskiing, horse riding and many other sports. For golf enthusiasts in the vicinity of Umag there are also golf courses.
