Orchard Cottage is secluded and set in open countryside adjoining the owners' home. Beyond the cottage garden, the property enjoys panoramic views of the local countryside and the distant Lakeland fells.
The pine kitchen leads into a light and spacious living area with pine ceilings and maple floors. A feature fireplace made with local green slate houses a wood-burning stove: ideal for those cosy nights by the fire.
At the other end of the cottage is the dining area, where meals can be enjoyed overlooking the apple orchard and views. The double bedroom opens onto the wooden sun deck, complete with garden furniture, which looks out across the property's private field.
With a double bed the cottage is ideally suited for a couple. However, there is a sofa bed which could accommodate a second person or a child. The property includes a small wet room with toilet, shower, and small wash basin. Please see our photographs to appreciate the layout and proportions and do not hesitate to send us an email if you have any questions.
Orchard Cottage offers free WiFi. Linen is provided as are hand towels and tea towels; we ask that you bring your own bath towels. Logs for the fire are provided. Laundry facilities are available should you require.

The Cumbria region
Orchard Cottage is an excellent base for walking, sightseeing or just unwinding. A short drive from the cottage will bring you to the market town of Ulverston, the birthplace of Stan Laurel (of Laurel and Hardy fame). Coniston, Windermere and the Duddon Valley are within 20 minutes drive and the surrounding villages with traditional pubs, quality craft workshops and tearooms have much to offer. The majestic ruins of Furness Abbey should not be missed and lovers of wildlife will be attracted to the nearby animal park and to the nature reserve of Walney Island ...

No problem to accept late arriving guests as I live next to the cottage and would always light the fire on a cold winters nights a couple of hours before arrival.
Pleased you enjoyed the shortbread, I had just made big batches for Christmas. Hope to see you again.

Thanks for the review. Yes the fire is a special feature especially on a cool night. Some people have not used the fire as the weather has been too warm and have actually booked again so they could come back in autumn or winter to use the fire. Pleased you want to come back and will look forward to welcoming you again whenever you are ready for another peaceful break.

Thanks for taking the time to comment on Orchard Cottage. Yes the wet room is small but not a dissimilar size to a caravan. It would be lovely to have a larger one and we have looked at various ways to enhance it and may do so in the future. However I think that it is well represented in the photographs and does not build itself up to be anything other than what it is and contains everything necessary to fulfill its funcntion. As you say the rest of the cottage more than makes up for it in comfort and equipment and that is where most of the time is spent. Watch this space, the next time you visit England, who knows!

Thank you so much for taking the time to review Orchard Cottage. Last year I purchased the bench with drinks table in between but that has not proved robust enough. You are quite right the decked patio would benefit from a table and chairs and we shall look into purchasing a new set soon. Thanks for your comments.

My pleasure, pleased you enjoyed it. The pheasants are pretty special, the cock and at least three hens feed daily outside the bay window of the cottage so can be seen whilst eating breakfast along with other garden birds. Our newest edition to the feeding tree are gold finches which are also beautiful.
