Cooked Birch is situated off the beaten track near the southern tip of Coniston Water. Despite being in a quiet and secluded area, there is easy access to the main A5092 between Broughton in Furness, Coniston and Ulveston.

Crooked Birch offers two Self Catering cottages. Both are perfect for couples. Wetherlam has its own log burning stove, and also has a Bunk Room to cater for two children. Langdale is accessed via steps and has a beautiful bathroom to relax in. Both properties are furnished to 3 star standard, and even above if we do say so ourselves!

Langdale

A superb first floor cottage, attached to the owners' farmhouse in the quiet hamlet of Subberthwaite, just five miles from Broughton-in-Furness and nine miles from Coniston Water. This secluded Lake District cottage has been individually styled to provide a lovely romantic retreat. This Lake District cottage boasts a delightful open plan living area with a warm and cosy sitting area, a small kitchen, a dining area and a welcoming bedroom with en-suite facilities. This Lake District cottage is ideal for a couple to get away from it all and enjoy the peace and serenity of this beautiful area. A public footpath runs straight past this Lake District cottage, allowing easy access to the fells and moorland of this remote area. There are fabulous views down the valley to Coniston Old Man and a traditional 14th century pub is just two miles away from this Lake District cottage. There are many activities including horse riding, fishing, walking, climbing and mountain biking available close by, plus the towns of Broughton-in-Furness and Ulverston are well worth visiting. This Lake District cottage is a wonderful holiday home at any time of year

Accommodation

All first floor. One double bedroom with en-suite bath, basin and WC. Open plan living area with small fitted kitchen, dining area and sitting area with electric fire.

LPG central heating with electric fire in the sitting area. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washing machine in owner's farmhouse, TV with Freeview, DVD, CD/radio. Library of books and DVDs. All fuel and power inc. in rent. Bed linen and towels inc. in rent. Off road parking for two cars. Bike storage. Small lawned area with patio, furniture and BBQ. One well behaved pet welcome. Shop 3 miles, pub 2 miles. Note: The property is accessed via an external wooden staircase.

We welcome pets with the normal caveats that any damage be paid for and that they are not allowed on furniture. We have our own animals and you will no doubt encounter our St Bernard and our cats during your stay!

Smoking is allowed on the premises but not within accommodation in accordance with UK Law.

Walking

Crooked Birch is a great base for walks. Just outside our main gate begins the path over Great Burney. This hill is featured in Wainrights 'Outlying Fells' and is arguably one of the most underrated walks in the Lake District. Its panorama is one of the best that you will find, with the summit viewing the Old Man of Coniston, Dow Crag, Scaffel and Morcambe Bay.

Other walks over Subberthwaite Knott, the Cumbria Way, and Beacon Fell are a short distance from our doorstep.

Ulverston

Crooked Birch is situated in the 'triangle' between the A593 (Broughton to Torver), A5084 (Torver to Lowick) and the A5092/595 (Greenodd to Broughton). We are near the southern tip of Coniston Water, and the source of the river Crake. The fell we are surrounded by is quiet and peaceful but yet there is easy access to all the Lake District has to offer.

Ulverston, festival town, is the nearest centre for shops and night life at about 8 miles.
