The Cumbria/Lake District
The Lake District National Park is the largest in England, covering fells, lakes, villages, towns and beaches. Plenty of attractions including South Lakes Animals Park, Cars of the Stars museum, Beatrix Potter museum, National Trust Houses and gardens, Aquarium, Sailing, Watersports etc.
Ullswater / Pooley Bridge area
Lake Ullswater (the Lake District's second largest lake) is only 1 1/2 miles, and also nearby is Haweswater which has the only nesting Golden Eagles in England. There are many activities on and around the lake - fishing, sailing, Ullswater Steamers, bike hire. Plenty of walks from your doorstep ranging from gentle walks to all day treks up Helvelyn and High Street Mountain range.
How to get there
From junction 40 (Penrith) on the M6 motorway take the 4th exit if travelling from the south, or the 2ND exit if travelling from the North, onto the A66 (eastbound) which is a short stretch of dual carriageway.
After 1 mile there is a roundabout, take the 4th exit (A6) signposted Eamont Bridge. Follow the road through the village and turn right onto B5320 signposted Pooley Bridge / Ullswater.
