The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base. Other areas to discover include the Eden Valley, Cartmel peninsula, south east Cumbria and the Carlisle and Hadrian's Wall area; all equally beautiful and very handy for day trips into the lakes.

Howes Beck Cottage is situated in an elevated position on Bampton Common with views over to Knipe Moor. Bampton is set in the Lowther valley surrounded by hills and moorland. The hamlet has a small public house, The Mardale Inn where you can enjoy an extensive menu made up of local produce. Haweswater is not far from the hamlet and at the RSPB reserve on the south west side you can observe the rare Golden Eagle as well as Peregrines, Buzzards and Dippers. Ullswater is also within easy reach and has many fantastic opportunities both on and off the water including sailing across on the steamer and hiking up Helvellyn for stunning Lakeland views. Howes Beck Cottage is perfect for those looking to do lots of walking and wildlife watching in a quiet corner of the Lakes.
