The Cumbria/Lake District

The Lake District conjures up images of magnificent mountains and shimmering lakes and that is exactly what visitors find here. In fact the whole county of Cumbria is home to some of Britain's most beautiful scenery. This region has been a favourite all year round holiday destination for years and apart from its natural beauty it's also packed with lots of attractions and activities that cater for every kind of holidaymaker, from family holidays to romantic breaks for couples and from those who are looking for lots of activities and sports to those that prefer more gentle country pursuits. The Lake District National Park lies at the heart of Cumbria and contains well known and much loved holiday destinations such as Windermere, Bowness, Ambleside, Coniston and Grasmere, here there are lots of charming Lakeland villages to discover and visitor attractions for all the family. The northern and western lakes have miles of untouched natural rugged beauty and rural villages as well as being home to the historic northern lakes town of Keswick with its many shops, pubs and restaurants; providing a great holiday base.

Ullswater

Pooley Bridge is on the northern side of Ullswater and has good connections both by road via the M6 and by water, the Ullswater steamer takes you across the seven mile lake to both Glenridding and Howtown! The village is full of delightful old house and a 16th century bridge which straddles the River Eamont. There are a number of pubs in the village with further amnesties available at Glenridding and Penrith. Ullswater is a hob of activity with walking, sailing and fishing the principle sports. Many walks can be enjoyed from here including a trek up Helvellyn or low level walks around the lake. Other local attractions include the Rheged Centre, Dalemain House and the Alpaca Centre.
