Originally built in 1679, Swinsty has been recently renovated and refurbished by an award-winning interior designer, to provide exceptional holiday accommodation for up to 9 people in the Lake District.

The traditional, original Lakeland stone of the exterior is complemented by rooms finished in contemporary comfort and design style. The property has 4 bedrooms, two with a king size bed and 1 with a beautiful en-suite. You can relax in the spacious lounge, with beautiful wood burner or escape to the games area or study room. The kitchen is well equipped and has french doors, leading out to the patio area. There are lovely views throughout of the fields surrounding the cottage, making it the perfect getaway for extended family or a group of friends.

The cottage itself is located in an amazing rural position in the secluded valley of Martindale. Martindale is a tranquil haven for walking and relaxing, in a privileged location away from the crowds, but within walking distance of Ullswater Lake. Swinsty is a superb base to explore all the attractions the Lakes has to offer.

The large entrance hallway has plenty of hanging space for wet coats and boots after a hard day out on the fells. From here is the large 40ft sitting room to your left which is warm and stylish with comfy sofas, a woodburning stove, flatscreen Sky TV, DVD player, music centre, audio system and plenty of books to borrow.

From the sitting room is a play room with study and an extensive library of books which you are welcome to read during your stay. The play room has a small snooker table which can be converted to table tennis table or darts board.

The kitchen is light and modern with stylish cabinets, electric cooker, hob, microwave, dishwasher, large fridge-freezer. There is an extendable dining table here and double french doors open onto an extensive paved terrace with fantastic views of the Lake District Fells.

Downstairs there is also a utility room with washing machine, tumble drier and Belfast sink, as well as a separate toilet.

Upstairs there are four bedrooms. Three are doubles, one of which has an en suite shower room & toilet. There is a washbasin in the second double. There is also a twin bedroom which has a third (single) pull out bed.

There is also a bathroom upstairs with bath and shower over.

Outside there is a beautiful lawned garden with patio area. The driveway has parking for two cars with more parking on the other side of the gate.

The changing seasons bring with them different highlights – Spring is a time of new life with baby lambs, Wordsworth's daffodils, and walks through bluebell woods. Summer brings it's own magic, either lazing by a lake or enjoying the view from the high mountain peaks. Beautiful Autumn colours hopefully bring along an Indian Summer and wild winter on the frosty fells, makes the most of an open fire and a seasonal glass of mulled wine.

The beautiful lakes, with dramatic fells rising from their shores, are just part of a great experience of excellent local food and fantastic activities. A holiday here will live long in the memory and get you coming back for more.

Ullswater

Located in the breathtaking landscape of unspoilt Martindale, Swinsty is situated in rolling valley farmland with its own walled garden and enclosed parking. It has a lovely terrace for eating out and drinking in the magnificent views. A Lakeland beck trickles past its driveway. The owner's family have been associated with the area for over 80 years.

Magnificent Lake Ullswater is just 1 mile away: second largest of the lakes, and many think the loveliest. There you can swim, picnic , walk or sail on Ullswater's steamer boat.

Challenging or more leisurely walks are on the doorstep. This is walkers' paradise. And as you would expect from truly unspoilt countryside there is interesting wildlife to be seen, including red squirrels, badgers, red deer, owls, herons, kestrels, buzzards, and, if you are really lucky, golden eagle.

Swinsty is situated at the end of a long no through road from Pooley Bridge that skirts the south side of Ullswater. So there is absolutely no traffic and it remains quiet even in high summer. Yet access is easy with Penrith and the M6 just 30 minutes away by car and the nearby small village of Pooley Bridge is just 15 minutes drive.
