About the home

The Little Barn is a studio apartment situated down a quiet, winding country lane in the Lower Weald of East Sussex and makes the perfect getaway for those seeking a tranquil base from which to explore the surrounding countryside. This newly built oak-framed barn is situated only 3.5 miles from the town of Uckfield and is only 20 minutes to Glyndebourne where the famous Opera House is situated and Ashdown Forest known the world over for being the home of "Winnie the Pooh" is a 10 minute drive away. The Little Barn is also well situated to take advantage of the many walks the area provides. The Ouse Valley Way is located just half a mile down the lane and the footpath takes you all the way to historic Lewes, the county town of East Sussex. Both the North Downs and newly created South Downs National Park are within easy driving distance. The National Trust run Sheffield Park, an 18th century informal landscape garden, and Wilderness Wood a family run sustainable woodland in the Sussex Weald are also popular places of interest nearby. For those interested in local wildlife The Little Barn can also offer badger watching as there is a sett at the bottom of the paddock and at least another four setts in the adjoining fields.

Ground Floor:
Living Room/Bedroom has lovely wooden floorboards with rugs throughout and a super king sized double bed with bedside tables, a comfortable sofa, wall-mounted flatscreen TV with Freeview/DVD player, a dining table with two chairs and French windows overlooking the garden
Kitchen Area is well equipped and has a two ring electric hob, microwave combi-oven, larder fridge with separate ice box, washer/dryer and dishwasher
Shower Room is beautifully fitted and comprises a power shower, full length mirror, shaver point, heated towel rail, washbasin and w.c

Garden: There is a patio area to the front and a portion of the owner's garden is reserved for the exclusive use of guests. An outdoor table and chairs and barbecue are also provided.
Parking: Off-road on the drive beside the owner's property.
Heating: Electric radiators.
Notes: A security deposit of £50 is payable on arrival at the property.

The Uckfield area

Piltdown is a small village on the Southern edge of Ashdown Forest. The local pub recalls the village's most famous resident, Piltdown Man. Discovered in 1912 and reputed to be the missing link in the evolutionary chain; he was later exposed to be a hoax in 1953. The perpetrator was never identified but nearby local resident, Sir Arthur Conan, is one of the suspects.

The property itself was very secluded with fantastic views and plenty of space in the garden for my dog to roam!
The Peacock Inn, just up the road was a quaint venue for lunch and the food was excellent. Beware, it does get busy on Sunday so either book ahead or go early! - Ms W - December 2011
