Liddell House 1f Grand Parade
About the home
The iconic Liddell House was built in 1958 by the wealthy local builder of that name as a beach-house to be gifted to his daughter. It was designed by his friend, the architect Peter Yates, of the local Ryder Yates Partnership, and originally included a number of ground-breaking design concepts. Over time it is hoped to restore as much of this house to the original concept as is practicable - and possibly add a roof-terrace.
Liddell House features on Page 29-30 of the "Ryder & Yates" book by Rutter Carroll. A fantastic & completely unique Townhouse on 3-levels, with panoramic views from four very large windows of Tynemouth Longsands towards the Boating Lake, Art-Deco styled Park Hotel & Cullercoats. Wow! as several guests have said as they walked into the lounge for the first time.
The Townhouse featured in Professional Photographer Magazine on the 24th October 2012, courtesy of Richard Hanley & following a 2-day location shoot. Third Films Limited has also shot a short film at the Townhouse earlier in 2012. The Castell's also completed a promotional video that features on You Tube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_KX1wwr2Qk

Walk on the vast unspoilt beaches of the Northumberland Coast, visit Holy Island, innumerable castles (Bamburgh, Dunstanburgh, Alnwick, Warkworth - to name just a few of the 70 +) & Border Reiver defences, the Duchess of Northumberland's Gardens at Alnwick with her multi-million pound tree-house, National Trust properties that include Wallington Hall, Cragside Hall, Gibside Chapel, and Seaton Deleval Hall. The Tynemouth area
A great opportunity to relax, unwind and enjoy a well-deserved break in a uniquely different 60's themed setting - let's face it you probably need a holiday. Only a short few minutes walk away from the renowned Tynemouth Longsands beach, Crusoe's cafe, Tynemouth Boating Lake & the Grand Hotel. You will be 4-minutes walk away from Tynemouth Priory, steeped in 2000 years of history: as an Anglo-Saxon settlement, an Anglican monastery, a royal castle, artillery fort, coastal defence & burial site of several Kings of Northumbria.
The Townhouse is very close to the scenic & trendy Tynemouth "Village" itself with a wide choice of popular cafes, pubs and restaurants. Tynemouth Metro Station is also close by (with it's famous Sunday Market), and with an excellent service that will take you straight in to the heart of Newcastle city centre. A surfer's paradise - Tynemouth is firmly established on the UK Pro Surf Tour & has previously hosted the British National Surfing Championships.

The townhouse is very easy to find: it is situated on Grand Parade, Tynemouth more or less equidistant between the Grand Hotel & Park Hotel overlooking the Tynemouth Longsands seafront.
From Newcastle upon Tyne: head along the main A1058 Coast Road towards Tynemouth - quite literally situated on the north side of the mouth of the river Tyne.
From the north-bound A1 or A19 route towards the Tyne Tunnel: travel through the Tyne Tunnel straight up to the first main roundabout approximately 1 mile away, turn right (fourth exit) on to the main A1058 Coast Road & keep the river on your right & follow the Tynemouth signs.
Southbound from Glasgow: Take the M74 to Carlisle, A69 Carlisle to Hexham (watching for the speed cameras) & on towards Newcastle then pick-up signs for the Coast. Tynemouth is 10 miles directly East of Newcastle, on the north bank of the River Tyne literally at the mouth of the Tyne. The A1058 is the main Newcastle Coast Road, which takes you directly east out of the City towards the Coast, the sat-nav will probably take you on a ring-road route, but this will be almost as direct & probably less congested.
Southbound from Edinburgh: Take the M73 then M74 route south to Carlisle, then follow the A69 Newcastle directions detailed above (watching for the speed cameras). Alternatively head south on the A1 (again watch for the speed cameras), turning off left towards Cramlington (after about 100 miles) & picking up the A19 Spine Road south towards the Tyne Tunnel. Turn left on to the main A1058 Coast Road & keep the river on your right & follow the Tynemouth signs.

Easy communication with owners who were most helpful. Great location for sea views and shopping and metro station in Tynemouth. The views of the coast are fantastic and the mirrors placed in the main rooms ensure a clear view and an airy light feel. The 60's decor adds an extra interest to the place and it is interesting to read about the history of the property. The open plan kitchen, diner and lounge is very useful if catering for larger parties. |
