The Turkish Aegean Coast region
Turkey's Aegean coast is beautiful, historic and agriculturally rich. The most spectacular of the classical sites are along the Aegean Coast, stretching from the northern border with Greece south to Bodrum. The treasures include the 3,000-year-old ruins of Troy, made famous by the poet Homer; the ruins of the fabled city of Pergamum, on its windswept hilltop; and the magnificent temples, colonnaded streets, and the theatre in Ephesus.
In this region are also the less-visited, though still impressive, ruins of the ancient cities of Didyma, Miletus, and Hierapolis. For a taste of up-to-date Turkey, head to Bodrum, which is getting the reputation of being the St. Tropez of Turkey with its profusion of seaside restaurants and swank cafés and nightclubs, visitors can get strong doses of sun and (mostly sophisticated) fun.
Turkey’s impossibly diverse geographic features include mountains, seas, rivers, and plateaus, all of which combined produce erratic weather patterns. Though areas of Turkey may differ drastically in temperature on the same day, you won’t have to worry because Bodrum manages to maintain a moderate, Mediterranean climate. Turks actually come here to escape the weather of other areas in Turkey!
With sea temperatures ranging from 16 to 25 degrees between summer and winter, Bodrum is a great location for diving holiday at any time of the year.
LOCAL TUZLA AREA...
Royal Heights is located on the beautiful Tuzla headland, close to Lake Tuzla with stunning views of the Gulf of Gulluk and the Aegean Sea. During the period October to April, Lake Tuzla is home to 1000's of migrating and local wildfowl. These included flamingos and pelicans as well as many rare and beautiful birds and mammals. Lake Tuzla is a national reserve and is protected by the Turkish government. Royal Heights is just one of four resorts situated in this beautiful location, all available for you to explore and enjoy.
Gumbet: The resort of Gumbet is located in the next bay along from Bodrum and has one of the longest beaches on the peninsula. A wide range of water sports are available here and the beach front is lined with shops, cafes and bars. At night time Gumbet comes alive with the buzzing atmosphere of Bar Street which runs from the centre of town down to the beach and there are many bars, tavernas, cafes and nightclubs to choose from.
Gulluk: Gulluk is a picturesque bay and traditionally a fishing village. You will find watersports, stunning views and a good choice of cafes and restaurants
Bogaziçi: The nearby village of Bogaziçi is 10 minutes drive from Royal Heights resort and holds an important place in history as the site of the ancient city of Bargilia. After exploring the unspolit stone village, a swim in the clear blue water is perfect. Small fishing boats come and go throughout the day delivering their catch to restaurants on the shore where you can dine and relax overlooking the glittering Mandalya Bay.
THINGS TO DO...
There are many things to do on the Bodrum peninsula from playing golf (Vita Park Golf Resort - a pay and play course) - is just 5mins drive from Royal Heights, splashing around in the wonderful aqua park at Ortakent, visiting the heaving shops and markets in Bodrum Town and Turgutreis where many bargains are to be had, visiting Yalikavak with it stunning sunsets and Gumuslu with its wonder fish restaurants, Scuba Diving and Wind Surfing in Bodrum and Bitez and much much more. You'll need several holidays here to see it all.
Askin Diving Center is a PADI Resort Center, and offers PADI, CMAS and Baracuda courses for all levels and there is equipment for up to 70 divers. With sea temperatures ranging from 14 to 25 degrees between summer and winter, Bodrum is a great location for diving holiday at any time of the year. Recompression facilities and the services of a hyperbaric doctor are on 24-hour call in Bodrum. More details on the web page of this company
Day trip to Cos/Greece After only 20 minutes on the hydrofoil you will arrive the greek island of Cos that is just opposite of Bodrum. A day trip to this birthplace of Hippocrates will add color to your holidays. Many traces of its ancient past are here, like the tree of Hippocrates (center of town) and the Asklepeion of Hippocrates (bit out of town). Do your shopping before the Greeks have their Siesta (most of the facilities are closed then). Keep that in mind as well, as you are planning your trip on a Sunday. Cos itself is a nice and tidy Greek town. For more information just call our letting agents on 0117 230 2966 - they can tell you lots about such trips and other excursions, car hire etc.
Horse-riding and river-rafting can be done just a little distance from Bodrum. For those who like to be really adventurous, there are Jet skis or you might even fancy Parasailing. Jeep-Safaris are offered by many companies now.
For the more energetic amongst you, a funpacked day can be spent here riding the exhilerating slides. It is easily found in Bodrum. If you dont fancy driving, just outside the complex there is a tourist shop that organises day trips. This is just one of the many excursions that can be enjoyed on their Itinery.
TURKISH GULLETT CRUISES
Definitely not to be missed are the sailing trips on those most wonderful Turkish Gullets. There for the day you will be wined and dined, and taken to some beautiful coves, whereby you can safely swim in the crystal clear waters of the Aegean, or just soak up the suns rays on board deck. This is a trip that can also be booked from the toursit shop just found outside the complex
Nightlife Bodrum and Gumbet
Bodrum probably has more bars per area than any other place in Turkey, appealing to all tastes. Even Turks quite often rank Istanbul as number #2 after Bodrum
The night life of Bodrum is something very special. Even Turks will rank Bodrum after Istanbul as number 2. Bodrum probably has more bars per area than other places in Turkey, appealing to all tastes. Among them are intimate seaside cafes with magnificent views of the illuminated castle.
In Gumbet you can take your pick for top nightspots. Wander along Bar Street and go into whatever takes your fancy. Trends change and what is hip one week may not be the next. The best bet is to follow the crowds if a bar or club is busy that usually means a good night can be expected. Try the Queen Vic, The Shamrock, Victoria Bar, Beach Club and Heart Beat Disco. Bars are open from midday until the small hours. Discos generally don't get going much before 2200 or 2300 but stay open until 0300 or 0400.

"Worth it for the views and sunsets alone !"
Booked late due to the poor English summer and have normally orgaanised our own itiniery avoiding the crowds where we can. This part of the Bodrum peninsula is not too crowded, a nice mix of Turkish and other nationalities. The Apartment, benefiting from air conditioning in each room is located at the top of the hill, down to the beach and has truly stunning views of the bay and superb sunsets. The bedrooms and lounge are airy and very tidy and kitchen more than adequate. I would only comment on the lack of english channels on the TV but really thatsa not why you are on vacation! The Infinity pool is one of the best I have seen and is not overly populated. If you want a bit more, then you can access all resorts and there are many pools and other attractions on the resort sites with a handy courtesy bus that operates between the sites and takes you down ( and up) the hill to the beach, Infinity pool, spa and restaurant. Car hire is a little more expensive than other Mediterranean countries but worth it if you want to discover a bit more of the coast and inland. I would avoid Milas rent a car unless you want a 6 year old Hyundai with over 100,000 miles on the clock . Advised trips are Milas on market day and more distant the rediscovered ancient town of Aphrodite which is sensational. We found Turkish and in particular the employees of the resort to be most helpful. All in all a high class location and apartment for a reasonable cost. highly recommended

"Royal Heights - Best Sunset !"
I recently stayed at Oyster 22 with friends. The villa is on the Royal heights resort and it is a great place to stay. The Villa is modern, clean and very spacious. The royal heights resort is built on the side of a hill and the road down to the beach is very very steep but luckily there is a monorail to take you up and down which was a lifesaver in the heat! The complex has a couple of pools located at different levels on the complex so you don't have to head all the way down to the beach if you don't want to but I would recommend a day down on the jetty on the huge cushions, makes for a great chilled day especially if you have an Efes (local beer) or two. At night you can head to the Royal Heights restaurant, get down there for amazing views of the sunset. We found the food t be of good quality and usually only cost 200 lira for 4 with quite a few drinks!!
There is a supermarket about 300m from the top of the complex just take a right after security. Also on that road is a cash machine. If you want to have a day/night in Bodrum there is a bus that will pick you up from just after the supermarket it goes every hour at quarter past the hour and is only 6 lira each way and takes about 25 mins, it runs until 4am so no need to rush back.
The villa is only 15 minutes from the airport and if you email the owner he can book a transfer, this cost us 60 lira each way.
Overall it's a great place for a chilled get away and would recommend it to anyone
