The Turquoise Coast/Lycia region

Turunc village is one of the best kept secrets along the Aegean coast. It is in a stunningly beautiful bay - surrounded on one side by pine forested mountains - and on the other side by the clear blue waters of the Aegean Sea.
The village has been welcoming visitors for over 15 years and there are many people who again and again to experience the warmth and hospitality of the Turkish people.
The weather in Turunç is warm and sunny from the end of March until the end of November. In the high summer the temperatures are hot and perfect for sun worshippers, but there are also cooling breezes which roll around this natural bowl - even on the hottest days.
The Blue flag beach of Turunç is a mixture of sand and shingle and has a gentle rake. The sea is amazingly clear making it ideal for families. For the adventurous there is a host of watersports available of for the more leisurely, take lunch at one of the many beachside restaurants and bars.
Eating out in Turunç is a pleasure when there are so many restaurants to choose from. Many offer traditional Turkish food such as mezes and kebabs, with perhaps some baklava and Turkish coffee to finish! The prices vary with the style of restaurant - from the cheap and cheerful to the more up market and formal. Locally caught fish is aways available on the menu.
The nightlife is based around the bars. Some of these have dancing until the small hours for those with energy after a hard day on the beach.
There are plenty of day trips to visit the surrounding area and boat trips can be taken to explore along the beautiful coast. These can be booked from several of the tour operators on the main street, but our favourite is Green Idyma Travel Agency.
If you feel like some raunchier nightlife then Marmaris and Içmeler are just a 40 minute bus ride away. These bigger towns also have more choice for shopping and bargain hunting amongst the markets.
The Turunc area
Turunc is a small resort that has grown from a traditional Turkish coastal villageconcentrating in fishing. Situated about 40 minutes drive from Marmaris on the Bozburun Peninsula.
It is a family oriented resort with the main street being closed off to traffic during the evenings, making it safe for even the very young. There is still much evidence of Turunc's dependence on agriculure and a short drive out of the village takes you into mountains and villages unchanged for hundreds of years.
Boats leave regularly to visit the five local bays or further afield to Caunos and Dalyan and water taxis can take you to neighbouring Icmeler or to Marmaris.
Car hire is availale locally by the day so that you can and venture into the hills and explore the neighbouring villages of Orhaniye, Selimiye and Hisaronu. Jeep safari's can also be arranged to show you the sights without the driving.
Further afield there is the bustling town of Datca and the ancient (buried) city of Knidos.
During the months of April, May, late September and October you can put on your walking boots and go exploring on foot.

We have just returned from the most perfect holiday and the "Tranquility" apartment we rented in Turunc, Turkey was "simply the best"........... Big rooms, all the facilities and comforts you could ask for, a large swimming pool (maintained every day) 3 en-suite bedrooms (perfect when your teenage daughter takes an age getting ready) and the "little touches" that you don't normally get, made it a very special and memorable stay. It's a perfect place for a family (especially when you have one of each) OR a group of six friends could stay there quite comfortably.........ten minutes walk to the town centre / beach front, a superb choice of bars & restaurants in town and a big plus -- NO HASSLE !! when walking round the small but very friendly town. As the headline says " Our best family holiday ever......." Response: We were delighted that you enjoyed our Turkish home - and our family friendly neighbours. Please come back soon. |
Guestbook for Tranquility - with large pool
We arrived to be shown into a virtually new 2-storey apartment which was finished to a very high spec. The master bedroom was large enough for a 5-aside tournament with the en-suite facilities of a size large enough for 4 or 5 teams with 2 balconies.
Our daughters room although a little smaller was again furnished beautifully and made her feel like a princess. The ground floor had a further double bedroom a large bathroom and fantastic although rarely used kitchen, and large lounge.
The family thoroughly enjoyed the apartment, outside we had the use of the fabulours good-sized swimming pool, which combined with the sea frontage kept all the family very happy.
The town of Turunc is large enough to have a good selection of quality restaurants and bars but still be of a size to have a traditional Turkish village feel.
The icing on the cake for us was the people who whether working in restaurants, shops or just locals were all genuine and friendly with infectious smiles.
I can thoroughly recommend Turunc in Turkey as an excellent venue for all. The holiday was above the standard one would normally expect.

Having had a couple of holidays in the area - this apartment proved to be the one of the best which meant that this was probely the best family holiday we had ever had - the peaceful surroundings but still only 10 mins walk from the town centre was great. Our girls were able to walk around feeling safe and everyone was very friendly, from the shop keepers to the restaurant owners.

Across the bay from big, brash Marmaris is Turunc, a delightfu; town well served with holiday accommodation, shops and beachfront restaurants, all within walking distance of onw another. The food was deliciaous, especially the Turkish breakfast and the casseroles cooded in a clay oven.
A local travel agency, run by June and Murat Rumelli (www.jmturkey.com) can arrange inexpensive transfers from Dalaman airport and coach trips within the area. June is English and can advise on local hotels or good-quality villas for selfcatering holidays.
On the waterfront, gulets manned by local seamen provide full or half day trips along the coast, mooring at each little bay for swimming and relaxing. These trips are much less expensive than those offered by tour companies and the seamen are careful and charming
