The Turriff / Fyvie area
Fyvie lies alongside the River Ythan, famous for the pearl mussels found in its many deeper sandy pools, or pots and was once known as "the Rich Rig of Scotland".
Fyvie is host to Fyvie Castle reputed to be home to some of the ancient Scottish kings dating back to the 12th-century. Bring your children to visit Fyvie Castle - the Spook Squad castle - and hunt for the ghosts yourselves.
Interested in wildlife and birds, a recent RSPB survey on our farm identified 22 species of birds, several of these are of conservation concern. There is a good range of wildlife on and around the farm and guided tours can be arranged.
All the attractions of the area are only a pleasant drive away on quiet roads. Sample the whisky trail; visit some of the numerous castles or the small fishing villages and sandy beaches on the coast.
Turriff is a thriving community built of red sandstone and the main shopping centre for the surrounding farmlands. The Mercat Cross, in Castle Street, was originally erected in 1512 and signified the right to have a market in the town. The cross was replaced by the current 20ft. high red sandstone structure in 1865.
The Haughs is a large recreational park area, which boasts a children's play area, seasonal boating pond and crazy golf course.
Other places of interest include The Old Post Office Museum, which has regular exhibitions of local history, and the Session Cottage Museum which is a mid 17th century cottage furnished with 19th century artefacts and set in a courtyard location.
