The Galicia region
Galicia may not be as well known to British holiday makers as the Costas, but if you want beautiful countryside, real Spain in a region known for being "Green Spain" and justly famous for wonderful beaches and countryside, superb seafood and fish cuisine and a friendly population proud of their traditions with many festivals all over the area, then Galicia is for you and your family.
Don't expect many people to speak English but communication when you want to eat and drink shouldn't be too difficult! As the villa is on the Portuguese border it is ideal for all the delights of Northern Portugal, unspoilt and traditional whether inland or on the white sandy beaches.
A selection of bars and cafes are within easy walking distance, but the local area has some really excellent tapas and restaurants, how do they do it for the price? Menu of the day ( 3 courses plus a bottle of wine) for 8 Euros or even sometimes less!
Visit the most famous beaches on the isles de Cies, go to the various wine and food festivals, take a tour round a vineyard, hire bikes to ride next to the River, visit the many historic sites, hire boats, take a trip down the river, river kayaking, all within the local area. Further afield are the visits to Santiago cathedral, the wild north coast, the Portuguese Duro valley, Oporto city one of the most popular short break cities in Europe. The possiblities are endless!
