The Southern Italy / Calabria region
Tropea, the pearl of Calabria the "feet" of the italian peninsula, is sited in one of the Southern Italian’s better tourist location called “Capo Vaticano” (also called Vatican Cape). Wonderful sand beaches, crystalline water, sunny and clear weather along the whole year are the character of this gorgeous land, selected inside the 100 beautiful sea places in the Word. Furthermore you can also play Golf, have diving, set sail, have dancing and have each tourist attraction you need. In 30 min. driving you can arrive in Vibo Valentia a modern city with all the relevant activity you can need as exclusive shops, Policlinic, Mega-markets etc. Near Tropea and Capo Vaticano you can find some typical Calabrian villages as Spilinga, Serra San Bruno or Mileto where you can find the authentic Southern Italian’s atmosphere, however in only 1,30 hour driving you can reach Reggio Calabria where you can see the well-known Riace’s Bronzes in the Magna Graecia Museum.
Tropea area
Tropea stands on an imposing standstone cliff, in a charming position between the Gulf of Sant’Eufemia and Gioia Tauro, and is one of the most artistically interesting and picturesque centres in the Vibo Valentia province. The area stills holds traces of ancient prehistoric settlements, alongside buildings and burial passages dating back to Greek and Roman times. Tropea has one of the best preserved and most beautiful historical centres to be found in the entire region. Must sees include the XI century Norman Cathedral, the Church of San Frencesco and Santa Maria della Neve, and the evocative Santa Maria dell’Isola, which rises at the foot of the city on a strip of land which projects towards the sea. The most ancient city centre stands on the so called “belvedere” terrace, from where can be admired the transparent, deep azure sea, which infringes on the jagged cliffs and the pure white beaches; all this natural beauty is surrounded by undulating hills dappled with citrus groves, vineyards and olive groves. Finally, but by no means least importantly, the region is renowned for its delicate hand crafts and its gastronomy – in particular its seafood.
