The Dalmatia region
With more than 1000 miles of coastline, 1185 islands, unspoilt beaches, clear blue seas, a string of ancient walled cities, Roman ruins and a climate balmy enough to nurture orange and lemon trees, it is no surprise people are starting to flock back to Croatia. You will experience Croatian hospitality everywhere, superb restaurants featuring locally caught fish and Italian influenced cuisine accompanied by delicious local wines. The locals are great fun where even emptying the bin is an excuse to promenade! In the past it was the haunt of Edward and Wallis Simpson, Agatha Christie, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor and is now being rediscovered by current celebrities and royalty such as Princess Caroline, Brad Pitt, Prince Charles and Bernie Ecclestone who spends most summers in central Dalmatia on his yacht. With a population of only 4.4 million Croatia does not need mass tourism revenues, and can concentrate on the luxury side of the market.

RESTAURANTS: CIOVO: Recommend Josipa/Simon at Villa Katarina just three minutes from apartments and Benni/Astro at Mali Raj (about 50 metres up the road from where you enter road for apartment/ V.K.) for local food/drink. Korniza at harbour/beach is also a great restaurant. TROGIR: Kamerlengo in Trogir is one of the best restaurants and specializes in steaks and fish. The End is another good restaurant, which caters for all tastes. The Top Balloon we recommend for pizza/pastas etc.

Guestbook
You didnt exaggerate one little bit,the place is as magical as you said and exactly as the ads claim The Mediterranean as it once was. We have been travelling throughout Europe for over 30 years now and Croatia reminds us of our very earliest experiences, with clear water, a slow pace and extremely friendly locals. As for the apartment, your description was totally understated. The apartment was extremely spacious and well laid out over the two levels, with all needed facilities provided.. and more. The second bathroom was the icing on the cake when it came to getting ready to go out in the evening - no queues!! Your welcome pack with info about local activities and restaurants was just great. You were right about the Mali Raj and when Astro found out that you sent us he gave us an even bigger welcome (as well as the promised discount). We ended up going there a few times and I have to mention the food. One of the standard menu items, a chateaubriand for two, was as good as any we have had anywhere and with the price including all potatoes and other vegetables it is definitely the best value. On another occasion he offered to prepare a fish meal for the four of us. We chose nothing and just arrived at the restaurant at the appointed time. We had soup from the fish to get the meal up and running and the main course was two types of fish, one grilled and one boiled. I cant remember the name of the fish but all I can say is the meal was an exceptional culinary experience. On the same note the local hotel, Villa Katarina was also a top class recommendation, especially as it is only one minute from the apartment block. Josipa and Simon were just as welcoming as Astro. Changing topic, the beach REALLY is well secluded and REALLY is only a short stroll away, as you promised and the views from the apartment balcony over the beach and further afar added to the whole experience. I could go on forever mentioning different places and experiences but I wont. However, I do have to mention Trogir. This tiny heritage town is an absolute MUST for all visitors, especially as it is only a few minutes away by road or water taxi which was another nice little experience. By the way, I found out that Mali Raj means Little Paradise in Croatian. It is not only a good description for the restaurant, it is apt for the whole of Ciovo and Trogir, which to my mind is definitely a little piece of heaven. We will definitely be going back there, sooner rather than later.

We arrived at destination at night, so first holiday impressions were of the apartment, and all I can say is what a great beginning to our holiday! The apartment was huge and airy - really spacious and attractive, Most importantly it was spotlessly clean. Vlado and Josepa made us feel immediately welcome when they greeted us, and were really helpful, giving us some good information and pointers for our holiday. The view from the balcony of the nearby beach and indigo sea the next morning was just beautiful! The beach itself was just a few minutes stroll away, walking along the quiet twisty lanes between the pretty houses and their gardens (the whole area is really peaceful and restful). The beach - a white pebble one - was great, not at all hectic, with plenty of sunbeds available, and there's several restaurants in the immediate vicinity that serve food all day too, their menus providing plenty of choice. There was also a good supermarket beside the beach too. At night we stayed in Ciovo either enjoying one of the friendly local restaurants or else cooking ourselves at the apartment, for which the kitchen is ideal (as it's really kitted out just like the one at home) and eating at the large dining table or al fresco on the large balcony The apartment really proved a comfortable home for our party of six for the ten days we were there, as it contained everything we could possibly need. The other thing that made this holiday to Croatia so enjoyable was the the town of Trogir next door. We were unaware before we arrived that we would be neighbouring a World Heritage Site! Trogir is really very beautiful, absolutely stunning! It's only a short taxi ride/ few euro away from the apartment. After wandering around the old town there we'd sit out and watch the beautiful people disembark their yachts in the harbour! We went into Trogir every second night (there's many bars and restaurants) though we'd heartily recommend that you make at least one trip to see it during daylight. The combination of the apartment and the area of Ciovo and Trogir made for a brilliant holdiay, we really felt so lucky. Becasuse we were there for ten days we thought it would be a waste not to explore a little and travelled to the islands of Hvar and Brac - making a fantastic two day trip of it. We have, without doubt, fallen for this particular part of Croatia - and look forward to returning to the same spot and apartment again as it was just idea for us.
