The Dalmatia region
Most of the area is covered by Dinaric Alps mountain ranges running from north-west to south-east. On the coasts the climate is Mediterranean, while further inland it is moderate continental. In the mountains, winters are frosty and snowy, while summers are hot and dry. To the south winters are milder. Over the centuries many forest have been cut down and replaced with bush and brush. There is evergreen vegetation on the coast. The soils are generally poor, except on the plains where areas with natural grass, fertile soils and warm summers provide an opportunity for tillage
Trogir is a remarkable example of urban continuity. The orthogonal street plan of this island settlement dates back to the Hellenistic period and it was embellished by successive rulers with many fine public and domestic buildings and fortifications. Its beautiful Romanesque churches are complemented by the outstanding Renaissance and Baroque buildings from the Venetian period.
Best place to go on your holiday.
Trogir - meet the town with 2300 year lasting tradition
Trogir is a beautiful medieval town situated on the Adriatic coast 30km north of Split. Its medieval core is placed on a small island between the island of ?iovo and the mainland; connected to the mainland by a small stone bridge and with the island of ?iovo by a drawbridge.
Its rich culture is created under the influence of old Greeks, Romans and Venetians who all had a hand in building the town. Trogir with its many palaces, churches, towers, and fortresses in every way deserves to be called 'the Stone Beauty'. The urban and architectural plan of Trogir's old town has kept its basic medieval structural elements of a fortified town. It has the typical composition of streets and squares as well as the representative sacral and secular public facilities. Regardless of the architectural value of some of its specific facilities, Trogir is most of all, remarkably valuable as a whole, with its many messages - artistic, cultural-historical, natural and as such represents one of the most important cultural assets in Croatia, as well as the whole world.
Split is the economic and administrative center of Middle Dalmatia, with about 200,000 inhabitants. The site was first settled when,
at the end of the third century AD, the Roman Emperor Diocletian built his palace here. Many of Split's historical and cultural buildings can be found within the walls of Diocletian's Palace. In addition, numerous museums, the National Theatre, and old churches and other archeological sites in the Split region make it an important cultural attraction.
National par Krka covers the area along the flow of river Krka, which springs three kilometers northeast of Knin and it passes through the deep and vivid 75 km long canyon forming deafening falls - Kr?i?, Risnjak, Miljacka, the Roški slap Falls (26) and the famous Skradinski buk Falls (the Krka Falls 46m), the greatest calcareous travertine barrier in Europe. The lower Krka flows through Prukljansko jezero lake and flows into 9 km long bay - Šibenski zaljev. In NP Krka, two cultural and historic monuments stand out: the Franciscan monastery on the island of Visovac and the Krka monastery and the most important town in the group of picturesque towns on the park area is Skradin - the town protected as a cultural monument.
