The South East England / Hertfordshire region

The Chiltern Hills are situated close to the heart of England. It is an area of natural beauty with a wealth of places to visit. The property is up to an hour away from most areas of interest - whether it is Warwick Castle, The Tower of London, National Trust properties, Zoos or Theme Parks.
Weather tends to be mild, there are plenty of activities outside if the weather is good, and plenty of inside activities if wet.

Tring / Wigginton area

Wigginton is a rural settlement situated on the summit of the Chiltern Hills, overlooking the beautiful Hertfordshire landscape and benefiting from a uniquely elevated position. The village offers a retreat from town life. The quaint village church, the traditional Greyhound Inn, and the local primary school, collectively form a focal point for the Wigginton community.

Wigginton has a long recorded history, first appearing in the Domesday Book of 1086. Since then the village has experienced a diverse history, ranging from camps of Civil War soldiers settling on the surrounding land to the flourishing of the straw plaiting trade for which the village and the area became renowned in Victorian England.

In the twenty-first century, Wigginton is best known as home to the internationally famous Champneys Health Resort. However, as with most English institutions, Champneys is not with out a distinguished history. It was the first health farm to be established in the UK and is located in an elegant and extensive mansion, surrounded by acres of picturesque parkland, and built by the influential Rothschild family who settled in the area during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. The exclusive indulgence and relaxation offered by Champneys is a wonderful facility for any visitor residing in the village to have on their doorstep.

London is only 50 minute train ride away, with a wealth of attractions for the visitor. More locally both Ascott House and Waddesdon Manor are 10 minutes and 30 minutes away respectively. Both are owned by the Rothschild family and are stunning properties - Waddesdon has the appearance of a French chateau and is filled with beautiful furniture. Ascott House was described as a 'A palace like cottage, the most luxurious and lovely thing I ever saw'. This was how Gladstone's daughter, Mary, described Ascott after a visit in the 1880s.
If you prefer more Medieval History, Warwick Castle or Hampton Court are both accessible (but in opposite directions!) and both offer medieval entertainment at certain times of the year.
