The North East Italy / Veneto region

Without doubt one of the most beautiful places in the Veneto, Treviso'is located between the Dolomites and the Adriatic coast. The region, known as the 'garden of Venice', has a beautiful landscape scattered with delightful medieval towns. Visitors are invited to discover its gentle hills and to journey to the Prealps, where many ancient Venetian legends live on reminding visitors of the province's rich past.
Daytrips to Venice, Treviso's famous neighbour are easy and accesible. There is a frequent rail service and also coach connections. The train is faster, taking half an hour from Treviso to Venice's Santa Lucia station, and at €4.00 return is an enjoyable and econmical way of travel.
Natural parks, walled cities, architectural masterpieces, (by the likes of Palladio and Scarpa) paintings (by masters like Girogione,Tiepolo, Veronese), the sculptures of Canova, wine cellars offering traditional wine tasting, regional food specialities (like casatella, asparagus, red chicory, radicchio and sopressa) are just a few of the the things you will enjoy on a visit to Treviso and its surrounding region.
Should your tastes be more energetic and you fancy testing Olympic ski runs then take a 90 minute train journey to Cortina, known as 'the pearl of the Dolomites' . Alternatively if wine tasting and rural landscapes are more to your taste, you could tour the Prosecco-producing area of the Veneto - 'L'Anello del Prosecco' (the Prosecco ring), a 10km footpath connecting villages and vineyards.
Padua (Padova) reknowned as an ancient university town can be reached in around an hour by train. Whilst Verona, the home of Shakespeare’s star crossed lovers, Romeo and Juliet, is a two hour train journey away.
The coastal resorts of Lido di Jesolo and Caorle are also within easy reach.
The Treviso area
Treviso's meandering waterways and tranquil atmosphere make it an ideal base for exploring the area
or for enjoying a quiet Italian break. Rebuilt and restored after Second World War bombing, the town centre is a rambling maze of streets lined with arcaded walkways. Treviso is a true artistic and historial treasure and its charming streets are scattered with medieval buildings which retain their historical charm.
The town is circled by a town wall and numerous waterways; Treviso is sometimes referred to as 'little Venice'. The river Sile runs to the south of the centre, and canals carry water around the town, lined with houses or grassy banks, weeping willows, waterwheels and little parks. Treviso is a pleasant place to wander, and it has an abundance of bars, cafés and restaurants perfect for sampling the local cuisine and sparkling Prosecco.
One of Treviso's other notable features is its comfortable air of prosperity and the town is home to the clothing empire Benetton. Unlike Venice, this town doesn't depend on tourism - you won't be hassled by people trying to sell you leather goods or glassware, you can just appreciate a typical Italian town going about its daily business. So if you want a quiet getaway which provides a true taste of Italian life, this is the perfect destination.

we had a great stay in this apartment, it even exceeded our expectations. It is modern, with light airy rooms, and all the amenities one could need. There is a huge beautiful terrace on which we enjoyed our italian style breakfast every morning in the sun. The bicycles provided are a fantastic idea and meant we could easily explore the local area, including a lovely route along the riverside, stopping at a charming local bar for a lazy lunch. Treviso itself is beautiful and as a bonus it is really easy and quick to reach venice from the apartment. |
