The Limousin / Auvergne / Correze region

The Correze could be described as the Lake District of France with it's hills, lakes and forests. It's an ideal place for walking and cycling and is still relatively undiscovered as a tourist area.
During July and August the pace of life speeds up a little, but in comparison with most tourist areas, it is still peaceful and uncrowded.
There are many places of interest to discover. See our website for further detail.
THE WEATHER
May & June: The best time to come: usually hot and sunny with the countryside bursting into life and very few tourists around to appreciate it. You can often have the beach to yourself.
July & August: Usually very hot with stormy moments. Many more tourists and activities in the villages. A good time to come if you like a little more life, but still a peaceful area when compared to most tourist areas of France.
Sep, Oct & Nov: September is often still hot and summery, but there are fewer tourists. We can still get some lovely weather right through to November and even up to Christmas, when the snow often arrives. Few tourists.
Dec-Feb: Sometimes lots of snow. Usually in the minus temperatures. Glorious views.
Mar & Apr: These spring months can be unpredictable with hail storms followed by beautiful sunshine. Bring your brolly, but it's an ideal time for walking and exploring the area before it becomes too hot.
The Treignac / Chamberet area
Chamberet is the nearest town with facilities, such as a supermarket, shops, restaurants and bars and this is approximately 6km (4miles) down the valley.
Treignac, which is approximately 10km away, is designated one of the most beautiful villages in France and here you will find the lake with beach, swimming and watersports in summer.
Through the hamlet itself, there are walking and mountain bike trails and there is an equestrian centre only 1km (less than a mile) away.

The Old Granary is so peaceful, comfortable and private that to describe it any other way is impossible. It is everything you could wish for if you wanted an "away from it all" holiday. I look forward to the time when I can go back again and enjoy the beautiful surrounding countryside. Please go and try it! I don't think you will regret it! |

We loved the pretty patio garden and pool terrace so much that we hardly left it in the 2 weeks we were there! We already miss the ducks and the 3 legged cat that wandered around. We enjoyed the walk through the forest which started just a few metres from the gite. A very relaxing holiday with helpful owners that lived on site, but did not intrude. |

While Le Joulageix cannot claim to be the most charming hamlet in the area, Kate and Dave's small gite had all the facilities that we were looking for. The nearby town of Treignac is a gem and the ' Pain aux noisettes' from the boulangerie in Chamberet is still a great memory. We did some lovely walks in the cool of the forested areas that cap the local hills, armed with a typical picnic of bread, cheese, tomatoes etc. The information supplied, including some excellent photos, meant that we were immediately at home and had no unpleasant surprises. We particularly liked the very pretty garden and the privacy but, unfortunately, could not make use of the swimming pool. Although compact, we found this to be an excellent feature in a self-catering holiday home for two people and on most evenings we were happy to cook for ourselves and watch the riots in England on the TV. |
