The Limousin / Auvergne / Correze region

Correze could be described as the Lake District of France with it's many beautiful lakes, surrounded by rolling hills and forests. An ideal location for a holiday where you decide the pace.
THE WEATHER
May & June: The best time to come: usually hot and sunny with the countryside bursting into life and very few tourists around to appreciate it. You can often have the beach to yourself.
July & August: Usually very hot with stormy moments. Many more tourists and activities in the villages. A good time to come if you like a little more life, but still a peaceful area when compared to most tourist areas of France.
Sep, Oct & Nov: September is often still hot and summery, but there are fewer tourists. We can still get some lovely weather right through to November and even up to Christmas, when the snow often arrives. Few tourists.
Dec-Feb: Sometimes lots of snow. Usually in the minus temperatures. Glorious views.
Mar & Apr: These spring months can be unpredictable with hail storms followed by beautiful sunshine. Bring your brolly, but it's an ideal time for walking and exploring the area before it becomes too hot.
The Treignac area
Treignac is officially one of the most beautiful villages in France and is situated only 4km from the lakeside chalet, on the River Vezere. It's cafe-bars and restaurants are perfectly set for sitting and watching the world go by.
There are many other lovely towns and sites to visit in the area, such as Collonges les Rouges and Gimel les Cascades. The sleepy River Dordogne runs through the Correze, passing through some quaint villages, which are definitely worth a visit.
The area boasts several water sport activities, such as kayaking, canoeing and windsurfing. Mountainbiking, walking and horseriding are also extremely popular pursuits.

Stayed in the lovely and comfortable chalet for 10 days at the end of the summer season and the chalet was a breath of fresh air - literally. Two double rooms were configured as a one double and two single bed and ideal for a family of 3-4. Access is a slight (35m) hike up the hill and young ones will need a secure helping hand but we didn't have any issues. Each bedroom has it's own on-suite bathroom which a very practical feature for families or small groups or two couples. The kitchen is small, but practical and we hosted a meal for 7 during the holiday and definitely used all the many pots, pans etc. There is an oven as well as two hobs which we used for casseroles etc and also meals for just the 3 of us. We experienced a wide range of temperatures during our stay from 35C to 10C at night and the Chalet was very cool during hot period and warm with the electric heater during the night. 5 minutes away from Treignac, fresh groceries and plenty of places to around the area for walking, cycling and the local beach 500m down the road. Recommend the walk to reservoir and for the adventurous the complete circuit of the near by lake Bariouses. We would love to stay again at Chalet du Lac and we highly recommend it. |

The chalet is really nice, modern, in the shade, facing the lake. We really appreciated the large and cosy bedrooms with bathrooms and the front terrace facing the lake where we had all our meals. At the right distance from the lake and the road, excellent for the children to play totally safely. The area is very welcoming with a lot activities at the beach for adults and children. And the owners are really nice and helpful people. Our holidays have really been excellent :) |

An unusual location on the side of a hill however this meant the location was not overlooked or troubled by casual passers by. As so few chalets were in this location it was a very peacefull place to stay and with the hotel accress the road and the "beach" cafe located a short walk away use of the car was always necessary. With Treignac only a short drive or brisk walk away what an ideal spot. |
