The West Country / Cornwall region

Pam & I moved to Cornwall in 2005 and to Carwinnick in 2006. We love both! If you are looking for peace and quiet, the main disturbances are owls, pheasants and the cry of the buzzard. We live on site in Swallows Barn (there are plenty of those too!). Whilst converting the barns we also found we had a wide variety of bats including both Greater and Lesser Horseshoe!
As we are on site we are only too happy to recommend a local walk, pub, restaurant or beach. I play golf at Perranporth but can recommend other golf courses in the area.
Carwinnick is a delightful rural retreat on the edge of the Roseland Peninsula, yet convenient for both the north & south coasts. Truro is 20 minutes drive and beaches on both the north and south coast are readily accessible.
The Tregony / Carwinnick area
We are located on the edge of the Roseland Peninsula, a hidden gem of unspoilt beaches and rolling countryside and acknowledged as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. We have walked extensively on the coastal paths and have several circular walks for the energetic.
We can organise golf locally and keep trying the local hostelries and restaurants if advice is needed.
For those wishing to visit the excellent Lost Gardens of Heligan & Eden these are 4k & 11k away.
There is a thriving street market in Truro (13k) on Wednesdays & Saturdays and this cathedral city is well worth a visit.

We stayed in Carwinnick cottage towards the end of July. It be proved to be a great base to explore all the beaches and ports on offer on both the North and South Coastlines. Very friendly reception from the owners Nigel and Pam. Very impressed at both the Cottage that we stayed in and also the more recently renovated rentals in the converted barn which we had a chance to see inside. Cottage is a nice mix of rustic charm and modern comforts. Kids loved stable style door into kitchen. Very well equipped kitchen with Raeburn range style cooker ( Depending on the weather as is on constantly if lit) and modern electric oven and hob. Nice touches of supplying washing machine powder, dishwasher tablets and washing up liquid. This is a very old cottage so don't be surprised that the floors creak and the walls aren't plasterboard flat. The decoration is fresh. Bed mattresses appear new and very clean. Bed linen / pillows were all to a high standard. The cottage and the other properties are set within a beautiful courtyard with extensive gardens for the kids to run around. If you have the weather each residence has great outside dining facilities in the from of tables, chairs and traditional charcoal barbecue. The properties would be great for large groups as it would be possible to book all three lettings and spend time with friends and family whilst still having your own space. We loved our visit to Cornwall and were spoiled by great weather. We had great fun at the beautiful ports. In my opinion St Mawes and Mevagissey are great to visit. On the Northern Coastline Padstow is great but tends to get busy quite quickly so for parking you are better to get there early. We went twice once parking in Padstow and on the second visit we parked in Wadebridge and cycled the 5.5 relatively flat miles along the well travelled Camel trail which follows the path of and old Victorian Railway line. Great choice of Fish and Chips in Padstow, Rick Stein being the most famous and busiest! Across the river from Padstow is the rather nice village of Rock with a great Beach. I have to say I was not impressed with Newquay the beaches are not a very high standard and the town and its buildings have a pretty tired feel about them. Was worth a visit just to see the surfers on Fistral beach. I don't think we will be back though. Our favourite beaches were the relatively quiet beaches on the South. Carne beach which is overlooked by the luxurious and expensive Nare's hotel. There are no shops at Carne but there are toilets. Towan Beach on the South ( there is also one on the northern coast) is very quiet and picturesque There is a national trust managed farm 300 yds from the beach ( Porth Farm) The national trust maintain the toilets there and there are also ample car parking facilities. Our favourite evening destination was Fowey. Very narrow streets, and few nice shops,Great restaurants and great view of the sailing yachts in the Fowey estuary . We ate twice in the Italian in the main square next to the aquarium. We stayed just short of the week and feel we only experienced a small slice of what Cornwall has to offer and hope to be back in the near future. We would not hesitate to recommend the properties in Carwinnick to friends and families as it met and exceeded our needs as a family. Response: Thanks for such a detailed review. Hopefully, see you again next year? |

Good base for surrounding areas, Eden, Mevagissey etc. Excellent place for dogs plenty of walks close by, especially if you have a Spaniel like mine who wanted to go out at 5.30 in the morning! Peaceful relaxing place to unwind on your own or with friends, highly recommended ! |

A well located and quiet location, enjoyment of a country farm. Car essential. From this area it was possible to visit the whole of Cornwall choosing different venues on a daily basis. Information available from the owners regarding eating out, local and general attraction in Cornwall. An excellent base to enjoy Cornwall from with our favorite being Fowey. Our group included older persons and one who required ground floor en-suite facilities which were catered for. |

"Thank you Nigel and Pam, we have all thoroughly enjoyed our week staying at Carwinnick. The cottage was very comfortable and well equipped, your local knowledge on places to visit and eat at were much appreciated. We found it very easy to get to all parts of Cornwall from Carwinnick which made it an ideal base for exploring the county"
