The North Wales / Snowdonia / Anglesey region
The chapel sits in a perfect position on the west coast of Anglesey on beautiful Holy Island often known as Mam Cymru (the mother of Wales). It is surrounded by some of the most beautiful countryside and scenic views of sea and mountains in North Wales. Anglesey is the place for extreme sports or gentle exploration of unspoilt coasts. If you venture off the island you are within easy reach of many more places of interest such as Snowdonia, Betws-Y-Coed, Abersoch, Caernarvon, Port Maddoch, Port Meirion (famous for it's pottery and Italian style village), Llandudno, Conway, Colwyn Bay and many more. There are four leisure centres on the island offering a variety of sports activities. If golf is your sport, apart from Trearddur Bay Golf Course there are a further 7 courses on Anglesey. There is a nine hole pitch and put behind the Beach Hotel complex in Treaddhur Bay. Why not try your hand at skiing as there is a dry ski slope half an hours drive away near Llandudno.
Trearddur Bay area
The chapel is within walking distance of Porth Dafach blue flag beach and is also within easy reach of another blue flag beach at Trearddur Bay. The area offers the standard of bathing water quality and beach management and is a mecca for water sport enthusiasts - sheltered sandy bays, remote coves, calm and wild waters and smaller offshore islands are perfect for sailing surfing and canoeing. Superb for a spot of sea fishing from shore or boat. Here you can sit on the long sweeping beaches and watch the many who try their hand at sand-yacht racing, wind and kite surfing. Book a day at the track and go motor racing at Ty Croes, one of Britain's friendliest and exciting circuits. Visit the South Stack Cliffs and lighthouse (why not tread the 400 steps to the top). This breathtaking clifftop site on Holy Island boasts walks, a visitor centre and CCTV to view nesting birds. In the summer months over 4,000 pairs of sea birds nest at South Stack cliffs including Puffins, Guillemots and Razorbills. There are more than 650 miles of footpaths spanning rugged coastal cliffs to ancient woodlands. Bike hire is readily available or book a pony trek just a few minutes from the chapel. There is a host of local shops, cafes and restaurants. Supermarkets are just five minutes away in the car as is the nearest pub/hotel. There is a shopping outlet ten minutes from the chapel with many varied shops ie Argos, Tesco, New Look, Wilkinsons, Brantome and Homebase. A new cinema complex is being developed in the area and bowling alley within a 5 minute drive. If the weather is miserable you could indulge yourself at the Tre-Ysgawen Spa with a touch of luxury and many treatments on offer. Why not spend a full day shopping in Bangor. Here there are shopping outlets just outside the city centre. Next, Argos,Laura Ashley, Several furniture shops, Matalan,Focus, B&Q and a Tesco super store In Bangor all major shops plus a new Marks and Spencer due for completion soon. There are many eating places and wine bars.
How to get there
Head for North Wales, then Anglesey. Go over the Brittania Bridge and onto the A55. Stay on this dual carriageway until the very end when you will reach Holyhead.
You will come to a roundabout with McDomalds on your left. Turn left towards McDonalds and then immediate right onto Porth Dafach Road. Follow this road to the T Junction. Porth Dafach beach will be right in front of you. Turn right at T Junction and the chapel is approx 1 mile up the road on the right - a very sharp right hand turn - take care!
