The North Wales / Snowdonia / Anglesey region
"If you want to really go for a coastline walk, you should go to Anglesey" - Bryn Terfel, International Opera Singer.
A place like no other - the Isle of Anglesey offers unparalleled beauty, amazing adventures, serious solitude and a warm welcome. As the diamond of Wales we have many facets to our glorious Island and invite you to come and explore.
Anglesey abounds with areas where interesting birds, plants and other wildlife can be seen and enjoyed. Being an island it has over 100 miles of coastline with varied habitats, such as sea cliffs, dunes and beaches, salt marshes and mud flats. These provide homes for a wide variety of animals and also harbour a varied flora. Inland much of the island is low lying agricultural land. Numerous areas are flooded and marshy, providing for a whole other set of plants and animals.
Anglesey is also a geologist's heaven, with a wide range of often complex rock formations, ranging from the Precambrian to the Carboniferous. This is topped off with some excellent displays of the effects of Quaternary glaciations.
Trearddur Bay / Four Mile Bridge area
Four Mile Bridge where HolyIsland joins Anglesey, is a short 5 minute drive to the beautiful and popular blue flag beaches of Rhoscolyn and Trearddur Bay - which is famous for it's sailing and sandy beach along with other pubs and restaurants. Holyhead, the main local town is within 10 minutes and has an abundance of shops and out of town stores including Homebase, Argos and Tesco. Local buses give you access to these areas too.
Within half an hours drive you can visit the world famous Snowdonia National Park, take a ride on the Snowdonia Mountain Railway and visit other famous atractions of North Wales including the castles, country houses, Pili Palace Butterly World, Anglesey Sea Zoo and many more...Full details of what to do and leaflets are available in the house.
Trearddur is a short name for Trearddur Bay. It is located south of Holyhead on the west coast of Holy Island on the northwest coast of Anglesey in Wales. The historical name for Trearddur Bay is Towyn Capel and at the centre of the beach, lies an ancient burial ground which was recently excavated.
