The Sicily region
Sicily is the largest of the Italian islands, separated from the Continent by the Strait of Messina and surrounded by the Ionian, the Tyrrhenian and the Mediterranean Seas.
It is one of the pearls of Southern Italy and can be discovered, understood and experienced through a series of itineraries dedicated to areas of interest ranging from nature to history and traditions.
Nature seems to have endowed all its wonders to this land: mountains, hills and above all the sea, with its incredible colors, its crystal-clear water and the beauty of its seabeds, in no way inferior to those of other seas.
Here, the Mediterranean Sea, with its many little islands scattered around the coasts of Sicily - The Aeolians, Egadi and Pelagie Islands, Pantelleria and Ustica - offers unique and the intense sceneries, scents and flavors of uncontaminated nature.
Last but not least, its great volcanoes are symbols of the irresistible beauty and vitality of this incredibly charming region.
Trappeto is in the gulf of Castellammare between Trapani and Palermo .Palermo is the starting point of any category of tour through the territory, facing the Gulf of Palermo and surrounded by orange and lemon groves of the Conca D'Oro Plain.
The city is truly a site to see, especially the polychromatic marble of its buildings, its Arab-style domes, its vibrant and colorful Vucciria market and the Kalsa Quarter, and its verdant settings, particularly the Parco della Favorita, Villa Giulia and the Garibaldi Gardens.
In Palermo's historic center, splendid monuments testify to its illustrious past, examples of which are the Palazzo dei Normanni, with the Palatina Chapel featuring ancient mosaics. The Church of San Giovanni degli Eremiti is surmounted by five red domes; meanwhile, the majestic Cathedral contains works of art, and in particular, the “Royal and Imperial Tombs.”
Worthy of note are the Church of San Domenico, one of Palermo's main Baroque monuments, and the Oratories of the Holy Rosary of San Domenico and of Santa Zita, famous for their rich stuccowork and interiors.
Special mention must be made of the Church of Santa Maria dell'Ammiraglio; it contains one of the most ancient mosaic cycles of Sicily, the Church of Santa Caterina with its richly-decorated interior. Then, see the divine and very old Church of the Magione, founded in the 12th Century. Trapani's coast - by turns flat and sandy or high and rugged - and the islands of the Province (Pantelleria and the Egadi Islands) offer fun opportunities to spend a relaxing vacation by the sea, and even practice every water sport imaginable.
Sea enthusiasts and/or the athletic can sail or scuba-dive to see gorgeous seabeds, or take a boat tour to discover the breathtaking caves of Maréttimo Island, among which is the famous Grotta del Cammello.
The protected areas allow for naturalistic excursions, and country trails, for trekking.
At the thermal baths of Segesta, wellness is guaranteed. The baths exploit the properties of special waters for treatments and therapies.
The calendar is rich in local events, and highlights the famous Holy Friday Procession in Trapani, the Feast of the Holy Crucifix in Calatafimi (May), and the Feast of Sant'Alberto in Trapani (August).
Among the celebrations dedicated to gastronomic specialties and typical products, food and wine week reigns in San Vito Lo Capo (August), as does the Mediterranean Wine Fair in Marsala (May and September).
