The Sicily region

Mazara del vallo, is a seaside town surrounded by valleys and mountains. It is the main town along this beautiful coast. The area has many long sandy beaches to choose from and one of the most agreeable climates in Europe. Approximate average temperatures: June to Oct 35 degrees. Oct to Dec 15 degrees, Jan - Feb 6 degrees and March to May 20 degrees.

Trapani / Mazara del Vallo area

Local places of interest include the ancient temples of Selinunte which are just a 20 minute drive from Mazara, or Lo Zingaro National park, great for walking, and diving. Also within easy reach are the ancient towns of Erice and Marsala, and the city of Palermo is just one hour away. The motorways are relatively traffic free making travelling by car quick and easy.

There are local caves to explore, and it is an ideal place for diving around the island, the nearest dive centre being a five minute walk away. The diving resort of Scopello is just a 30 minute drive.

Or why not take the hydrofoil from Mazara to the beautiful island of Pantelleria, or visit the Egadi Islands from the nearby port of Trapani.

Other activities nearby include a waterpark, horseriding and a watersports club offering windsurfing and scuba diving.

It is an ideal place for beach / walking and diving holidays, or as a base to explore the rest of the island. The local people are very friendly and the cuisine is EXQUISITE. Eating out is not expensive and there is a large selection of restaurants nearby to cater for all tastes.

How to get there

The apartment is just a 45 minute drive from Palermo (Punta Raisi) airport, and 25 minutes from Birgi airport in Trapani. Cheap flights available from Ryanair.com from Stansted & Dublin to Palermo Punta Raisi, and from Dublin & Birmingham direct to Trapani. Flights are also available from Alitalia from London airports.

Car hire available from hertz, holidayautos, Atlas Choice, Avis etc. Also through ryanair.

The apartment is a clean, well-equipped and spacious studio within two
minute's walk of the centre of Mazzara. It is almost directly on the sea
front, and a very short walk from great local restaurants and shops.

Mazzara itself is a busy working town - a genuine slice of real Sicilian
life. It feels like it has not been discovered by tourism yet; however a
short drive up the coast leads to some spectacular beaches, or there is
rock swimming nearby. Visitors will need a car, in my opinion, to get the
best out of the West of Sicilly. If they have one, then some stunning
temple remains and sites are within easy distance.

"We had a wonderful time in Mazara and the apartment certainly added to us enjoying our holiday. It is in a perfect location just a stones throw from the beach and the nicest restaurants in Mazara and extremely easy to find, even when it's 3am in the morning and you've just got off a plane! I couldn't fault the apartment at all, it is large with a very comfy bed, all you need with mod cons including a dvd player, washing machine and most importantly a bottle opener!
