The Trapani / Scopello area
Scopello is perhaps the more evocative and colourful place of the entire gulf of Castellammare. It is a small village risen at the end of the 18th century around the "baglio", on a previous arab country house. In the low-lying wonderful cove limited by the stacks and protected by old towers, there is the "tonnara" (thunny-fishing structure), known sine a long time ago (it is mentioned in documents of the year 1200); it has worked until few years ago, together with the"baglio", the buildings and the warehouses. You can reach it from Castellammare driving through the state street 187 in the direction of Trapani, deviating at Km 32.4, passing the bay of Guidaloca on which there is a 16th century cylindrical tower. The name of Scopello probably derives from the Greek "scopelos" (rock), from the Latin "scopellum" (rock) and from the arab "iscubul iactus" (high rock). It has been inhabited since the prehistoric period (finds discovered in the caves of the inland document the human presence, starting from the palaeolithic period), the zone has been known since ancient times because of the abundance of tunnys, which were fished in its sea, so much that the Greeks called it "Cetaria", that means "earth of the tunnys".

This property has wonderful views of the sea. It is very clean and well equipped, and has a garden that is safe for young children. It's just a few minutes drive from a beautiful cove and easy walking distance from a good pizza restaurant, and there are more restaurants further down the road in Scopello. Do hire yourself a small car though, as the winding driveway was very hard to navigate in an estate car! We were met by the owner, Giuseppina - a really lovely lady who speaks very good English and made us feel very welcome. |

Guestbook for Villa delle Palme
I would highly recommend this holiday villa for the perfect quiet, at one with nature retreat. Yet, everything, restaurants in the nearby Scopello, swimming, walking in the nearby nature reserve, supermarket, all within easy reach.
We spent 10 days here in mid June and the weather was just perfect. The villa itself contains everthing required and its wonderful seaview was to die for!
Highly recommended. Ann from Ireland.
"This is an outstanding property: large, spacious, airy, immaculate, and well furnished. The dwelling is located between the town of Scopello and the entrance to the Zingaro reserve. It is beautifully sited with views of the sea from a large, comfortable, shaded front veranda. From the house we could walk or drive a few hundred yards to a beautiful uncrowded beach where we swam and snorkeled in the clean, clear emerald sea for which Scopello and the Zingaro are justly renown. The owner, Giuseppina, met us in Scopello to guide us to the house. A delightful person, Giuseppina seeks every opportunity to improve her English, which is far better than she acknowledges. During the first three weeks of June, we spent three weeks in Sicily, each week in a different rental. Each was satisfactory, but this one was by far the best, excellent in every respect." Grace B: from USA
"Excellent quiet location and lovely house. Very clean & spacious with lots of garden area and fantastic views. Comfortably furnished including excellent kitchen facilities - there's even a BBQ in the garden. Scopello is an easy walk away and has a a number of very reasonable and good quality restaurants, together with a supermarket & fantastic bakery. A few rocky beaches nearby offer local swimming and there is easy access to motorway for further exploration - car is essential! Zingaro reserve is a fantastic location for walking and the entrance is an easy walk from the house. The owner was exceptionally helpful and extremely amenable even to a late Saturday night arrival!" John H. from UK:
Villa De Palmes is a wonderful place to holiday. Quite, charming house and surroundings with useful outdoors spaces, within easy walking distance of Scopello. It's a fantastic part of Sicily.
The Owner Guiseppina was very helpful and made sure we didn't have anything to worry about. Highly recommend. " Ben Wood from UK "
It is always pleasant to be greeted on arrival at a rental property by an owner who cares and shows you how everything works. The villa was spotlessly clean on arrival and there were crisp white sheets on all of the beds. There were six of us staying at the villa. Three adults, two children and a baby. We were not short of anything and had a comfortable stay. There is a very good BBQ to the rear with stone work surfaces to the side making outdoor cooking a real pleasure. The location was perfect for us. Sea to the front and mountains to the rear and sides. The villa is in a quiet elevated position away from the road. There are three good beaches nearby. We loved Scopello which is just a short walk away. Friendly and full of atmosphere with its bars and cafes, all with outside seating. The Zingaro Park is at the end of the road and walkable to. There are some lovely little coves for swimming and wonderful views. This villa is great value for money and in an unspoilt location. Recommended." Mark H.from UK
