The Sicily region

Sicily is located in the central Mediterranean. It extends from the tip of the Apennine peninsula from which it is separated only by the narrow Strait of Messina, towards the North African coast. Its most prominent landmark is Mount Etna, which is at 3,320 m (10,890 ft) the tallest active volcano in Europe and one of the most active in the world. The island has a typical Mediterranean climate.

Sicily has a rich and unique culture, especially with regard to the arts, music, literature, cuisine, architecture and language. Sicily also holds importance for archeological and ancient sites such as the Necropolis of Pantalica, the Valley of the Temples, Segesta and Selinunte.

Scopello is a lovely little village just off the Zingaro Natural Reserve. From here you may enjoy natural and historical sites, ranging from the blue of the sea, to the architecture of Palermo, or the greek temples of Segesta.

"A room with a view !"

The first thing we enjoy when arriving at Villa Acquamarina is the view ! On one side, the see and part of Castellamare golfo. On the other side the mounts of the Zingaro reserve. Then the beautiful garden. The house stands among tropical plants, pine trees and flowers. How can a garden be so beautiful without rain ? The place is of course very quiet ! No traffic noise, except perhaps the boats going to the reserve…
The house is very well equipped and very easy to keep clean. Beds are comfortable. We are a french family with our daughters aged 16 and 14. The covered terrace facing the see is enjoyable at any time of the day.
There is a very nice little beach 5 minutes' walk from the house (a bit difficult for the return : you have to climb up the hill !). But it is cleaned and not crowded like the public beaches. Don't forget special shoes for the pebbles !
The position in the region is very central and the major places of interest are reachable by car very easily. Don't miss Segeste and Selinunte, especially by the end of the afternoon. And of course Erice, the medieval city ! We have been a bit disappointed by Scopello village. Parking cost is 3€ no matter how long you stay ! Same for the Tonnara : 3€ per person ! Go to Mazzara del Valo for the narrow streets decorated with ceramics.
If you have the opportunity to visit Palermo and its wonderful churches, old palaces and popular market, go to Pasticceria Costa. Michele, the owner of villa Acquamarina, has warmly recommended it. Although it is located a bit away from the city center, it is really worth it, especially for the Martonara fruits…
Talking about Michele, I would like to mention he is a very nice person. He is patient and answers all the questions before booking ! Same for Graziella and Pepe who were there to welcome us, in Italian !
As a conclusion, a great place for peaceful and relaxing holidays !

"The villa was a dream and the town of Scopello charming"

Villa Acquamarina is a beautiful jewel with phenomenal views of the Tyrannean Sea. It is spacious and comfortable and served my wife and me and another couple with much privacy. It is centrally located to some of the famous sites of Segesta, Erice, Cefalu and Selinunte. I would recommend the agroturismos in the area where you get lots of homemade Sicilian food in warm and charming surroundings. A call for reservations will ensure a delightful meal with service filled with charm and warmth. The owner will provide many suggestions regarding the best agriturismos in which to eat. The restaurants are also wonderful, but a bit more espensive. Drink the Alcamo white if you are a wime lover. It is delightful! It is nearly impossible to get a bad meal in the area.
