The Queensland region

Magnetic Island is 19 degrees latitude in the Great Barrier Reef world heritage area. Only a short 8 kilometre ferry ride from Townsville to Magnetic Island..

Once you step foot off the ferry the slower pace ,friendly smiles ,Island ways instantly relax you.The island is a dry scrub tropics.Dramatic granite boulders balancing with giant hoop pines and seagreen bays ,yellow Kappoks, woodlands, mangroves & lagoons,is the diversity that makes maggie[locals name] an artists delight. We boast about the 11 months of sunshine a year which makes Maggie a popular wedding venue in the winter months.

Theres a loverly choice of totally relaxing or getting involved with the yearly events Magnetic Island Race week, followed by Jazz festival, september sees our month of bay days festival. There are weekly markets at the RSL on friday nights,or at Arcadia hotel on wed and fri Indonesian and Thai food.

Theres a golf course in Picnic Bay ,boat ramps for the fishing types in Nelly Bay.

Horseshoe Bay is my favourite bay to live in why ?The beach goes for miles with wild mts behind, one can walk & walk & see no one. There is a twisting mountainous road to scale before one drops into the north side of the Island with the Palm Islands group sprinkled across the sea.

Horseshoe Bay has great public transport that meets each ferry arrival and departure.Horseshoe Bay is the eating strip of the Island.Great cafes, restaurants, tavern ,shops, fish &chips with a great park with BBQs and lawns for picnics.A short walk up the beach is the national park trail head that has a loop walk visiting our most beautiful beaches.Theres horseriding on the beach and horse swimming in the sea, various watersports from jetski hire, tubing, kayak and hobbie cat hire.Sunsets are the best show of the day over the bay .
