The Loire Valley region

The Loire Valley is one of France's most impressive regions. The area is steeped in history and its rich heritage is obvious from the numerous famous Chateaux for which it is rightly famed. The Wine from this region is famous throughout the world and there are many caves you can visit and sample the variety before making your selection. More recently added to the tourist attraction of the area are a number of fine quality Golf courses.  You can enjoy a round of golf at the Golf de Touraine which is only 15 mins away by car.

Tours, a Gallo-Roman town, then the capital of the kingdom of France in the 15th and 16th centuries, reveals its extraordinary artistic and architectural heritage. The quaint Plumereau quarter with its cobbled roads, its old cafés and half-timbered houses. Wander through its streets by day or night and discover the town, its flower market, antique shops in the old town, flea markets, squares with their open-air entertainment and food markets.

Try the many wines in this region.  Azay-le-Rideau, Chinon, Bourgueil and Saint-Nicolas-de-Bourgueil invite you to discover their vineyards.

Come and stroll through the gardens of the Chateau Villandry or relive your childhood tales in the Sleeping Beauty château of Rigny-Ussé.  Admire the château of Azay-le-Rideau, set in the Indre.  Even more imposing, from the top of its rock spur, the château of Chinon, residence of the Plantagenets, which has been visited by so many illustrious characters.

If you love beautiful villages, you will be delighted by some villages ranked among the most beautiful in France. Candes-Saint-Martin, nestling at the confluence of the Vienne and the Loire, Crissay-sur-Manse, not forgetting Villaines-les-Rochers, renowned for its artisanal basketwork. Or according to La Fontaine 'the most beautiful village in the universe'  Richelieu

"The old mill was interesting and the islands belonging to the property were wonderful to explore"

We stayed at the ground floor apartment that was quite spacious and comfortable. However when it rained the floor became damp and even wet in parts and was quite cold. The gardens were lovely with beautiful roses and we had our evening drinks (when it wasn't wet) under the cherry tree in the garden. The Moulin de la Frenaye is close to good grocery shopping in Monts although you need a car for everything. We loved exploring Montbazon and found a wonderful tradiitional French bistro.
The owners of the property were very friendly and helpful.

It was a cold month and if the guest had turned the thermostat up the heating would have come on and warmed the apartment. The comment on the wet floor, as it rained most of that week, the guest should have used the door mat to wipe his feet on the way in. The comments he left in the guest book do not reflect any issues and quote " a very enjoyable stay and a warm welcome and generous hospitality were received."

"Not the 1st time and not the last time. We enjoy it."

We have been to the Moulin already several times and enjoyed it each time. We recommend it for singles and especially for families with children (they should be swimmers). Fix your hammock wherever you want, swing and relax. The only one to disturb you could be Poppy. We love it.

"Tranquility, fun, fishing, friendly hosts"

You can relax in the gardens, cool off in the plunge pool, use up excess energy canoeing or kayaking up the river and take a wildlife walk around the islands. If you need to extend your knowledge of French history, wine or gastronomy Alison and Peter are able to suggest places to visit, caves for wine tasting and excellent restaurants. They have a detailed knowledge of the surrounding area and are more than willing to discuss trips out and routes. They also host an aperitif evening to meet them and any other guest staying. We have returned many times over the last six years and are planning two trips again this year. I sit and fish whilst my wife partakes in the above, thus giving me perfect peace!

"Fantastic, a hidden paradise"

A wonderful place to use as a base to visit the Loire. Central for all the major chateaux. Great region for wine tasting. Property is peaceful and enables a relaxing holiday.
