Tourrettes sur Loup
Villa Beauvallon's local village is Tourrettes sur Loup. Here just 10 minutes away you can wander medieval streets, explore artists workshops (ateliers), watch a game of boules in the square, visit the local market, eat lunch or enjoy a drink in the sunshine at a lively cafe bar or in the evening enjoy en excellent dinner at one of Tourrettes delightful restaurants, many with outside terraces.
Tourrettes sur Loup sits in a striking location where its medieval buildings cling on to a rocky outcrop with excellent views all the way down to the coast and Cap d'Antibes. The word Loup in the name is for the River Loup which runs through steep rocky valleys nearby. Loup is the French word for wolf and refers to the fact that several hundred years ago the steep wooded hills of this area was where the wolf made its home. The wolves have now all gone but local wild life still includes two types of wild deer and the famous wild boar or sanglier.
Tourrettes sur Loup is also known as the 'Cite des Violettes' because of its historical association with the local growing of violets for the nearby perfume industry in Grasse. You can still visit local violet fields and buy produce in the village made with locally grown violets.
