Home description

This lovely c17th stone olive farm was purchased 6 years ago by its English owners, both artists. While great care has been taken to preserve its original character, new features including a heated Roman style plunge pool, spa and home cinema have been incorporated to create a unique paradise retreat. At an altitude of 600 meters, the property is accessed by a private road of 3 kilometers and comprises almost 5 acres of unspoilt countryside ideal for hikers, ornithologists, and nature lovers. The extensive private grounds feature over 60 ancient olive trees and are a haven for birds, butterflies and wildflowers. Eagles can often be seen circling the hills behind the property. Several excellent restaurants can be found in the nearby perched villages of Tourrette Levens and Aspremont and many of the Riviera's finest beaches, Monaco and Nice airport are just 30 minutes away by car. The amazing new Nice tramway with easily accessible free parking is less than fifteen minutes away. This unique property in a truly stunning and unforgettable setting offers a rare opportunity to combine the excitement of the Riviera with the peace and tranquility of a secluded, traditional provençal retreat.

The Bastide was built on the site of a Roman encampment and artifacts are sometimes found in the grounds. Further details indoors:
The bastide is traditionally furnished and the accommodation is typical of a provençal farmhouse. Water is drawn from our own mountain source and is softened. Full gas central heating is available in the winter months. UK satellite television is also available. There is also a superb home cinema fully equipped with surround sound located in a vaulted cave beneath the main house.

Further details outdoors:
The Bastide is accessed by steep stone steps. The land is terraced to provide different levels and is therefore unsuitable for very young children. It is also unsuitable for those allergic to cats! The solar heated plunge pool is equipped with a swim jet and is situated in a lovely secluded walled garden which can be locked. The superb gas heated spa is situated at the top of the garden within a ceder wood summerhouse. There is plenty of room for erecting a tent. A large mosaic table in the garden seats up to ten guests and there is a good selection of garden furniture. The pool and garden can be illuminated during the long, magical summer evenings.

Conditions

Not suitable for very young children, the elderly or infirm. No smoking anywhere on the property is permitted in the summer, due to the very real risk of fire.

"Thank you! What a lovely home you have. We've been very comfortable and been able to relax here enjoying the spectacular views. We've loved going into Nice and enjoyed the delights of the Marché des Fleurs, the great choice of restaurants during the evening, followed by a stroll on the prom - very entertaining! We particularlyenjoyed a visit to Monaco by boat from the harbour in Nice, viewing the celebs' houses at Cap Ferrat from the sea. Well worth the money! The 'Mireille' at Aspremont is a good choice for a pizza with a view from the terrace upstairs. It's a shame to leave and go back to the real world!" (Howard and Jan Samuels, Richard and Callum 12/08/06).

Lovely house and fantastic location. We really enjoyed lazing around and cooling off in the pool. Many thanks for your respect of our privacy. We all felt totally relaxed. Thanks again. (Marc, Jane, Gary and Tracey 09/06/07).

"We have had an absolutely lovely time! Thank you so much for your kind hospitality - we are going home relaxed after 10 beautiful days in your lovely home in the hills. So much so that I think we will have to be dragged out of here to home kicking and screaming!! One of the best holidays we have ever had - will be taking home many stories and smiley faces!! Thanks again" (James and Anna 18/06/07).

"Had a wonderful relaxed week. Enjoyed going to Monaco and looking at all the yachts. Nice was as great as ever wandering around the old town or just sitting watching the world go by" (The Grant Family 04/06/07).

"Perfect weather, lovely views. Surrounding villages are just beautiful. Well worth a visit are Levens, Falicon, Aspremont, Carros, and, of course, Nice. Many thanks for your kind hospilitality" (Kevin Keith David and Mary Bright 09/09/07)

"We have had a very enjoyable week. The weather has been very kind to us and we have had a truly unique experience. Thank you"(Kevin Kath David and Mary 10/10/07).

"We had a great stay in your wonderful, charming house. It was very relaxing and nice to get out of the hustle and bustle of Nice. We loved our day trips to Monaco and the mountains but at the end of every day we looked forward the most to returning to you farmhouse in the hills. We had a great walk up the back to the top where we had a great view of Nice. The pool was also great and a lot of fun. The kids loved the cinema and that gave us a good break! We also loved eating our dinner outside and enjoying the views. Thanks again". (The Jensen family from Australia 16/07/08)

"Thank you for letting us stay in your lovely house. We have had a great time enjoying the lovely sunny weather and great views. So many highlights including the village market at Aspremont for beautiful vegetables, fruits and recipes. Villefranche is a gem. We hired a small boat for an unforgetable day sailing around Cap Ferat. The tram is great as is Nice. Lots of lovely memories. Best wishes (Marie, Hannah, Lucy and Tomy 31/07/08).

Thanks for letting us stay in your mountain hideaway - the views are stunning. Weather was fantastic and the house and location perfect. We needed a total escape from the 'hamster wheel' of everyday life and that's exactly what we got. Totally relaxed, we're off for our next adventure. (Lisa and Neil 20/08/08).

Thank you so much for letting us share in your slice of heaven (albeit for only one glorious week)! So many memories ... the views, the cafés, the wonderful tram trip to Nice...fantastic baguettes and croissants in Tourrette Levens, great music, mushroom soup from your Elizabeth David's superb recipes !! Have I mentioned the views!! Our boys want to stay permanently in your home cinema !!! (The Parramore family, Sidney Australia 11/10/08).
