About the home
This lovely c18th stone olive farm was purchased 10 years ago by its English owners. When let, the owners move to a smaller property on the edge of the estate and guests of 'La Bastide' are guaranteed total privacy for their holiday. While great care has been taken to preserve its original character, new features including a heated Roman style plunge pool with warm water spa, and home cinema have been incorporated to create a unique paradise retreat. At an altitude of 600 meters, the property comprises almost 5 acres of unspoiled countryside ideal for hikers, ornithologists, and nature lovers. Although only a few minutes from Nice, privacy and tranquility are guaranteed as the property can only be accessed by forest tracks, one leading to Aspremont and Tourrette Levens, one to Falicon and a third to St Andre de la Roche (these unsurfaced roads are unsuitable for very low vehicles).
The extensive grounds feature over 60 ancient olive trees and are a haven for birds, butterflies and wildflowers. Eagles can often be seen circling the hills behind the property. Several excellent restaurants can be found in the nearby perched villages of Tourrette Levens and Aspremont and many of the Riviera's finest beaches, Monaco and Nice airport are just 30 minutes away by car. The amazing new Nice tramway with easily accessible free parking is less than fifteen minutes away.
This unique property in a truly stunning and unforgettable setting offers a rare opportunity to combine the excitement of the Riviera with the peace and tranquility of a secluded, traditional provençal retreat.

Further details indoors:
The Bastide is traditionally furnished and the accommodation is typical of a provençal farmhouse. The large bathroom is equipped with a power shower and antique bath tub from a chateau in Provence. Water is drawn from our own mountain source.
Full gas central heating is available in the winter months. There is also a superb home cinema fully equipped with surround sound located in a vaulted cave beneath the main house. As this is our home that we only let seasonally, clients are welcome to enjoy our large collection of music CDs, books and films on DVD. Larger groups have the option of renting 'La Cigale', a small, self contained, independent property on the estate.
Further details outdoors:
The Bastide is accessed by steep stone steps. The land is terraced to provide different levels and is therefore unsuitable for very young children. It is also unsuitable for those allergic to cats as we have several furry friends on the property! The 3x2 metre solar heated plunge pool is situated in a lovely secluded walled garden. There is plenty of room for erecting a tent. A large mosaic table in the garden seats up to ten guests and there is a good selection of garden furniture.
The pool and garden can be illuminated during the long, magical summer evenings. An independent timber chalet can be made available for larger groups. There is also a riding school nearby. Language training in either French or English at all levels is available
Not suitable for very young children unless supervised. Steps can prove difficult for the elderly or infirm. No smoking anywhere on the property is permitted in the summer, due to the very real risk of fire.
The Provence Alpes Cote d'Azur / Alpes-Maritimes region
At 600 metres altitude, the Bastide enjoys a wonderful microclimate.
Summer temperatures are a degree or two lower than on the coast and the air is pure and pollution free. Nice, Monaco, Cannes and the Italian frontier are all within a short drive.
The Tourrette Levens / Falicon area
The Bastide was built on the site of a Roman encampment and artifacts are sometimes found in the grounds. From the house can be seen ruins of a medieval village and the local perched villages are fascinating to visit. The chateau at Tourrette Levens can also be seen from the garden and houses a world famous insect museum.
There is a riding school nearby offering a chance to view the surrounding countryside on horseback.
A large open air swimming pool with picnic area and restaurant is available in the town of Levens, a drive of around 30 minutes, and another nearby in St Andre de la Roche.

Our 3 week stay at La Bastide will stay in our fondest memories. Pam and Patrick Smith were the most accomodating hosts, always available for any request we had. They shared their home in a way that made us feel at home incl. a nice bottle of wine to greet us and an evening of babysitting, what a treat!! Groceries were 5 minutes away by car in Tourette, great restaurants in Aspremont and other villages nearby. The nature we encountered thrilled our kids - owls, goats, and beautiful birds, perfect place for exploring!! We also took the wonderful boat ride with the lovely picnic lunch. Perfect day of relaxation and fun! There are many cats on the property but we were not bothered by them - on the contrary, our 5 year old twin girls were always seeking them out! Comfortable and filled with real charm, the old house was very welcoming. Each day we had our coffee in the garden where the view of the Tourette Leven castle just took our breath away - you never get used to it! Overall, we would recommend this rental to anyone!! Thank you for making us part of your family for a few weeks, we will always be grateful!
