Home description
River Cottage is located on the outskirts of Stoke Gabriel, a picturesque village on a creek of the River Dart. This property offers peace and tranquillity with the sound of running water, yet is conveniently situated just 10 minutes drive from Totnes and local beaches.
Sheep on the hillside, ducks on the stream, the sound of pheasants and owls are some of the wildlife that can be enjoyed here. River Cottage is next to the listed Port Bridge with views of this from the kitchen/dining room and living room.
This light, spacious property has a special quality that many people have remarked on. With wooden floors throughout the ground floor it has a contemporary feel. Stoke Gabriel can be easily reached by a wonderful 10 minute stroll along the lane past Byter Mill and its waterfall and along the edge of the Mill Pond.

The West Country / Devon region
The South Hams, meaning `sheltered place', is truly worthy of its status as an area of outstanding natural beauty. A mild climate, rolling hills, stunning coastline and beaches, rugged moorland and pretty villages make this a wonderful place to come on holiday.
The many picturesque villages and towns in the area include Dartmouth, Salcombe and the vibrant town of Totnes with its cosmoplitan and alternative character with lovely shops and a market on Friday and Saturday.
Totnes area
Stoke Gabriel is a peaceful village situated on a creek of the River Dart. You can walk to the Mill Pond where you can go fishing, feed the ducks and swans and where children can go crabbing. There is a small bistro by the water, the River Shack, where you can enjoy a simple lunch or evening meal of locally caught fish. There are two traditional village pubs, an excellent shop stocking fruit and veg, a friendly post office, a tea shop and a parish church.
Two National Trust properties are within easy reach of River Cottage: Agathe Christie's home Greenway and the magical garden of Coleton Fishacre. Totnes has many excellent restaurants and there is an arts cinema nearby in Dartington.
Broadsands beach is 10 minutes drive away and more off the beaten track there are many other wonderful beaches, such as the nature reserve of Slapton, Blackpool Sands and Bigbury. Paigton Zoo is less than 10 minutes drive away and boat trips and ferry crossings are available on the River Dart from Totnes and Kingswear.
