Peacefully set in a very quiet, secluded wooded valley, this beautiful old manor house and detached cottage, dating back to the 16th century, are full of traditional character and charm. Guests can enjoy shared use of the tennis court and indoor heated swimming pool shared with a neighbouring farm.

The Manor is very much a family home with comfortable furnishings, and enjoys a terraced natural garden to the front where wisteria, fruit trees and wildlife flourish, with superb views over open countryside beyond. To the rear is a lily pond surrounded by farmland, where Lily Pond Cottage (a cosy cottage for up to four people which is available seperately) is located. Both the cottage and Crabadon Manor enjoy a splendid position, quite remote in location off the beaten track and tucked away in the heart of the South Hams countryside, the most southerly part of Devon, with a wonderfully mild climate where many flowers still bloom in December.

Beautiful sandy beaches, the nearest is Slapsands, also Bigbury & Burgh Island are easily reached and the rugged splendour of the Dartmoor National Park is 6 miles. Dartmouth Golf & Country Club are in easy reach - 6 miles. Woodlands Country & Leisure Park - 4 miles away.

There are towns full of medieval and Tudor buildings and villages of delightful thatched, colour-washed cottages. The ancient market town of Totnes (4 miles) boasts a splendid Guildhall (NT), fine castle (English Heritage), sports centre, swimming pool, motor museum, weekly Elizabethan market (in summer) and boat trips down the Dart Estuary to historic Dartmouth. The coast offers excellent sailing and wonderful walks along the South Devon Coastal Path. Close by is the wild expanse of Dartmoor, with superb riding and walking. There are many NT properties to visit and the nearby village of Harbertonford (21/2 miles) has a good pub and restaurants. Shops - 4 miles Totnes. 8 miles Dartmouth.

"Stay safe and stay away"

This is a very unsafe derelict dilapidated place. Dead mice in fire places. Dirty on arrival. Birds nests in chimneys. Place filled with smoke due to blocked chimneys and no smoke alarms working. All … More

We are sorry that the reviewer found so many problems. However since their stay LAST YEAR the property has had some major renovations, including the repair of both chimneys. The property always has a current Gas & Electric certificate however these where probably located in the office. The need for the generator to be turned off at night is due to the noise not the cost. This is a quiet valley and evening noise can be heard for miles around thus disturbing the occupants sleep. The property is regularly inspected by Wyndham/English Country Cottages and they are happy that the surroundings to the house are safe. Although we have all mod cons installed e.g. dishwasher, washing machine etc. As we have advised previously this is a Country House and is situated amongst farmlands. It is not a modern Town House.

In response we can only say that the property is a Country Manor House and is in keeping with a traditional home. It appears that our guests where unfamiliar with the workings of AGA & Rayburn cookers and unfortunately had some disasters due to wrongful use. The damage talked about appears to have been of their own making due again their misunderstanding of various items in the property. This is not a city house full of all mod cons but a family country house.

"Odd in that it was good and bad."

Yes its a secluded manor in the middle of nowhere. Yes it's interesting and old and historic. There's a musket on the wall, pieces of THE HMS Victory by the front door etc etc ... But ... It… More

The property is in the middle of Farmland and as such has to rely on generators for electricity although the kitchen is fully equipped with a dishwasher etc. We cannot comment on how the sparrow came to be as we do regularly have the place cleaned. The windows etc are washed regularly but farmlands are particular dusty place and spiders love the countryside.

We have made a response direct to our client. However we would say that a lot of the problems where of their own making. We would also advise that we let the property to this family as they had been let down by their original booking. Under normal circumstances we would have declined any booking with more than 4 children as the property is not suitable. We were of the impression that additional family members joined the party mid booking which would in fact overload the services available at the property, but we cannot confirm this. Considerable time and money has been invested in the upkeep of the Manor House but as stated before this is a Country House not a London Pad.
