The West Country region
Situated in the South West of England, Devon is a great area to visit known for its beautiful hilly countryside, including Dartmoor, stunning sandy beaches and characteristic narrow, high sided Devon lanes. It's a great place for all kinds of outdoor activities including walking, cycling, swimming, sailing, fishing, horse riding and golf. However it also has some amazing old houses and country houses to visit. It's also know for its fabulous old pubs many dating back 500 years or more.
For a market town of just 6000 people, nearby Totnes has an awful lot going on. There is a big live music scene. Dartington Hall and Schumacher College are just a couple of miles up the road and people visit Totnes from all over the world because it is is the first transition town see www.transitiontowntotnes.org/.
It is also within a short drive of South Devon's loveliest beaches and is only a few minutes drive from Dartmoor too. The river Dart runs through Totnes and has some amazing wild swimming spots see www.wildswim.com
