Set in a small valley in the heart of the South Hams, The Linhay at Lukesland offers a chance to escape into the real Devon countryside. The property is set in an officially designated area of outstanding natural beauty and surrounded by farmland. Lukesland is itself a registered holding whose 15 acres of grassland are quietly mown by grazing sheep and a small, but prolific, flock of chickens - laying fresh eggs for breakfast!

Unique to The Linhay - Master Chef lessons cost £100 for two and include a two hour lesson, including the cost of all ingredients and lunch for two.

The Linhay is a newly converted, single storey barn used in the past for milking and stables. The Linhay is attached to the owners house but has its own, separate entrance from the courtyard, allowing easy access by car for unloading luggage. The spacious 40’ x 13’ room has a king size double bed, underfloor heating, and a comfortable sitting room area with a kitchenette situated on the mezzanine floor.

Outside there is a gravelled barbecue area for the exclusive use of guests and a secluded garden, sunny all day, with a bench strategically positioned to get the last rays of the setting sun. Guests are welcome to roam the fields, as are well behaved, leash-bound dogs.

There are walks accessible direct from the property but for the serious rambler Dartmoor is just 15 minutes to the North and access to the South West Coastal path is 20 minutes south. Surfers will find reasonable sport close by at Bantham and sailors will delight in the facilities at Dartmouth and Salcombe. There are a number of golf courses in the area and Plymouth and Exeter offer film, theatre and other entertainments. The South Hams is an especially good base for the food lover; the area is blessed with very good restaurants and some famous chefs.

Lukesland is also home to the Devon Meat Company, quietly located away from the house but available for the purchase of some excellent foods for the enthusiastic gourmet - including sausages & bacon for breakfast!

The Devon region

The warm climate and award-winning beaches enjoyed by South Devon have kept it a fashionable holiday resort for many generations. Torquay, Paignton and Brixham make up Torbay, one of the most popular areas for holidays in South Devon, and the area also includes the coastal towns of Dawlish, Teignmouth and Starcross. South Devon holiday cottages position their guests in some of the country’s prettiest locations for a break with a continental feel.

South Devon hosts dozens of festivals and regattas throughout the whole year ** One of the world’s oldest shipwrecks was found off South Devon’s coast ** Pete Goss built his Team Phillips catamaran in Totnes.

Totnes

From Totnes and Ivybridge to Dartmouth and Salcombe, The South Hams sits between the moors and the sea providing you with the best of South Devon’s rolling countryside and 60 miles of dramatic and ever-changing coastline.

There are six historic towns that collectively form The South Hams each with their own individual charm and unique characteristics; Dartmouth, Salcombe, Ivybridge, Totnes, Kingsbridge and Modbury. Meander along the pretty narrow streets and historic harbours and you will find a welcoming selection of gift shops, boutiques, galleries, restaurants and bars.

Head towards the coast and you will be greeted with an amazing selection of golden beaches and hidden coves. For the adventurous among us, water sports are available at many of the larger beaches while the smaller coves offer a peaceful retreat and are perfect for relaxing with a good book and a picnic.
