The Costa del Sol region
The locals are fond of claiming the best climate in Europe here on the Costa del Sol. The average summer temperatures of 28-30degrees, together with the sea breeze produces some glorious weather.Throughout the winter months the days remain warm
Alone amongst the tourist developments of the Costa del Sol, Nerja is probably unique in having retained its original Spanish identity during its growth from a fishing village to the attractive and fascinating town it is today.
Nightlife in Nerja is colourful and vibrant. There are reportedly between 450 and 500 restaurants and bars in Nerja, and the town has a warm, safe and genuinely friendly atmosphere.
A short drive away form the coast leads to some stunningly pretty villages, brilliant with their whitewashed walls.
The nearest is Frigilliana which is well worth a visit. Just outside Nerja are the Caves. These are truly astounding, natural phenomena ; 'cathedral-like ' doesn't really do them justice. They are so big that orchestral concerts are performed there.
The 'Balcon de Europe' in Nerja is a wonderful pedestrian area built high over the rocks at the southern end of the town. Here you can stroll among a fascinating mixture of entertainers including portrait artists, Spanish dancers, musicians etc etc and enjoy the wonderful Mediterranean evening atmosphere of this unspoilt, yet exciting part of the town.
Torrox Costa is an excellent long beach, backed by a promenade with a great selection of bars and restaurants. It is well hidden from the coast road and has a safe, calm and well-ordered feel about it. Further afield, the Alhambra in Granada is within 1 1/2 hours drive, and of course skiing on the Sierra Nevada is also an option.
