The Costa del Sol/Malaga region
This area is known as having the best climate on the Costa del Sol. The weather here is wonderful for most of the year. While the sun is not guaranteed during winter it is often possible to sit out and sunbathe, even in January! In fact the winter is often considered to be the ideal time for sightseeing. There are many festivals which take place throughout the year and are always fun. One of the best is the Nerja Feria, which takes place in October and lasts for a week. Shops shut, schools close and the parties go on all night. Another good one is San Juan, on 23rd June. On the night of this it is permitted to camp out on the beach ( we can supply a tent if guests wish to join in) ,again the party goes on all night!
Torrox / Mezquitilla area
Mezquitilla, is part of the coastal area of Velez-Malaga. Being only 7 minutes from the motorway and just off the N340 coast road it is the ideal location for anyone wishing to explore Andalucia.
There are many attractions to visit depending on whether you want something nearby or prefer to venture further afield. A few suggestions...
Near to Casa Marina, only a 12 minute drive away is the popular resort area of Nerja. This is a pretty town, very popular with tourists of all nationalities. A great way to see the town is to take the Tourist Train that trundles through the streets several times a day, or hire one of the horse and carts to be found on the Balcon de Europa. Although a tourist resort, Nerja is still very Spanish. It has some lovely beaches, many restaurants, bars and shops and is a lovely place just to wander around and take in the atmosphere.
Nearby at Maro are the famous Nerja Caves which are quite spectacular and well worth a visit. More caves and with completely different characteristics ( and fewer steps) are the 'Cuevas del Tesoro' (Treasure Caves) at La Cala de Moral. www.cuevadeltesoro.com There is also a small playground next to the caves.
Frigiliana, known as one of Andalucia's prettiest white villages is also nearby and we highly recommend that you use a local tour guide to talk you through the fascinating history of the town. It is lovely to take a tour in the morning (a sample of the local wine is included) then relax and have a coffee or lunch in one of the many restaurants. These all have terraces tucked away where you can enjoy the spectacular view down to the coast.
There are many lovely typical Spanish villages in the area to explore, such as nearby Algarrobo Pueblo or Benagalbon which has a tiny unique, museum. Knock on the door and the delightful caretaker will be only too pleased to open it up just for you. In many of the villages you will find elderly Spanish ladies selling fruit and veg from the open door of their home, giving you a fascinating glimpse of their life.
At Velez-Malaga there is a water park www.aquavelis.es as well as a shopping mall with a Bowling Alley and cinema. Other activities in the area are Go Karting, horse riding and scuba diving. Children also love the Nerja donkey sanctuary www.nerjadonkeysanctuary.com where they can feed and groom the animals and even adopt a donkey!
A short drive inland will take you to the beautiful Lake Vinuela area. Another lovely place with beautiful views to have lunch!
There are local markets on most days of the week as well as evening markets on some of the beaches. The nearest market is held on a Saturday morning at Caleta de Velez. This bustling market is full of bargains, fresh fruit, spices and pottery souveniers. Just across the road from the market is Caleta port and Marina. There is plenty of parking around the Marina (which only the locals tend to know about) and a very good restaurant. There is also a lovely beach just along from here and some very good chiringuitos!
During summer there are a variety of activities and events that take place on the paseo from live music to Spanish salsa classes for anyone to join in.
There are many lovely walks in the area particularly in the National Parks. We provide guide books and suggestions for walks at different levels of difficulty.
Jeep tours and guided tours can also be arranged.
Further afield, you may wish to take a trip to Granada and the Alhambra Palace (book tickets in advance), or Ronda with it's spectacular gorge, Cordodoba and Gibraltar are also well within reach for a day trip. There are just too many places to cover, but we supply guide books to help you decide.
There are many festivals in Spain celebrated throughout the year often with fun fairs and fireworks. See what's on here. http://www.absoluteaxarquia.com/fiestas.html

Guestbook for Casa Marina, Villa & Apartment
Here are some of the comments which have been written in our guest book....
" If you would like to receive more than what you have paid for, then this is your place. We were a group of ten people, ten different characters, and we all have reached the conclusion that this has been our best holiday so far. The house is clean, tidy and provides everything you need to feel yourself comfortable. The courtyard and swimming pool are big enough and great additions to this unbelievable property. Sitting on the terrace and watching the sunset is gorgeous. There are not many views in the world which can be compared to this one. The area of Costa del Sol itself is simply magnificent. Next time we will definitely stay a little bit longer. Thank you Marina and Richard for making this dream holiday happen! Evgeniy, May 2009.
We were a large family group from age 4 to 84! We stayed in Casa Marina for 10 days in July and we can all say sincerely it was pure magic. The villa is stunning with views over the sea that you could sit and admire from sun up to sun set. The Villa itself is not only beautiful in appearance but fully equipped to the highest standard. Richard & Marina are the perfect hosts and on hand should you require any assistance during your stay. We completely fell in love with the place and had a truly wonderful holiday there. Many thanks to Richard & Marina until we meet again!” Noife, July 2009.
My family and I all had a wonderful time at your villa. We felt totally at home from the moment that we arrived We couldn't believe how you had thought of absolutely everything! It was a truly wonderful place to celebrate my parents 50th wedding anniversary and I'm sure they will have many cherished memories. Lisa and Ryan, July 2009.
Me and my family had a wonderful time at your villa and could not get over the view from the balcony, everything we needed was at the villa. I will definatley recomend your villa to friends and family. Thanks again Marina for the breakfast and being on the other end of the phone to help us with our queries. Angie, July 2009.
Although I wrote a quick note in the book, can I just add how much we enjoyed staying at Casa Marina. The villa was really well equipped: one of the best we have stayed in. It was ideal having so much crockery for a big party like ours. I can hardly suggest any improvements at all which is a great credit to you and Richard. Maybe a few more china mugs as that was the one thing we needed to wash by hand each day as we ran out! But overall it was great. We really liked having the kayaks, the table tennis and the basketball. I'll definitely recommend the villa to friends and family. Bridget, Raith and family, August 2009
We have been travelling to different parts of Spain over the last 30 years, but the view from your terrace is one of the best we have ever had."
"Richard and Marina have created a wonderful amenity offering everything for the perfect getaway. We shall certainly return."
"Well what can we say! Sitting on the patio as the sun sets over the mountains after another glorious day on the beach. Truley a real home away from home with everything you need, thought of already. Thanks to Richard and Marina for making us feel so welcome."
"Thank you for such a lovely holiday! The apartment is fab with everything you would need provided. The views from the terrace are stunning. We would like to thank Marina for being so helpful throughout the week. We have thoroughly enjoyed our stay."
"We had a fantastic holiday in Casa Marina. A beautiful place to stay."
"The first thing we saw was the amazing view overlooking the sea. Met with a very warm welcome which is always nice when you arrive to start your holiday. Couldn't fault the hot weather, untouched beaches and friendly locals. A lovely place to relax."
"We have had a superb time here at Casa Marina and thank you so much for letting us share this idyllic place."
"Many thanks for allowing us to share this special place. We had an unbeatable 5 days here at Casa Marina, exploring the wonderful coastline. I could not think of better location to visit and apartment to stay in while travelling Spain."
