Home description
The property is a traditional stone farmhouse which has been tastefully renovated to include a spacious apartment with panoramic views over the hillside, the Maiella and Frentani mountains. The apartment has beautiful views from the balconies and terrace and is peaceful and tranquil yet convenient for the superstrada with quick access to the coast and motorway network. The garden provides fresh fruit and vegetables and wine is made from the grapes in the vineyard. All are available when in season so you can enjoy the italian experience of living close to the land and feasting healthily on fresh figs, tomatoes and vegetables! Nearby is Lago di Bomba where there are facilities for relaxation and water sports. The lake will host events for the Mediterannean Games in late June and early July of 2009 and the apartment would be the perfect location to access these events. The Maiella national park lies behind the hillside which is excellent for walking, trekking and mountain biking. The many birds of prey make the immediate area fascinating for the ornithologist as well as the casual bird watcher. This is unspoilt Italy where eating at the local restaurants presents excellent value. The house is surrounded by historic and atmospheric villages and towns, lesser known but no less stunning and interesting than those of Tuscany and Umbria. Indeed the area is a favourite haunt for Romans to spend their holidays, recognising the warmth and hospitality of the Abruzzese people, and the quality of the cuisine and regional products. The diversity of landscape allows for access to the ski resorts; the highest ranges outside the alps, whilst the unspoiled coastal resorts with blue flag beaches for warm and safe adriatic bathing are 20 minutes by car.

The Marche / Abruzzo / Abruzzo region
The region is rich in history, gastronomy and wildlife . Previously remote it is now well served by motorway links from Rome and Pescara which lies about halfway along the Bologna Bari route. The region is beautiful rising from coastal plain, through hills covered in vines and olives to the mountain ranges to the west and is renowned as the green heart of Europe as much of the region lies within the three designated national parks. The weather is guaranteed to produce abundant sunshine with temperatures comfortably in the 20s and 30s throughout May to September. The landscape is dotted with hilltop villages and the larger towns boast beautiful architecture and characteristic italian style. There is huge pride in the culture of the region and the locals are enthusiastic in welcoming visitors to this newly discovered gem.
Torricella Peligna area
The three surrounding villages of Torricella Peligna, Pennadomo and Roccascalegna provide all amenities and between them a fascinating Roman archeaological site, rock formations that afford climbing and and a stunning medieval castle. Each has fascinating architecture and breathtaking setting added to which the celebration days or feste mark their individuality with parades and fireworks. Along with Bomba the villages provide a network of local centres each between 4 and 10 kilometres from the farmhouse. There are also numerous agriturismi serving locally sourced food, two hotels and several bars and restaurants in the vicinity. Alongside Lago di Bomba, only 5 minutes drive is a holiday village with facilities open to the non-resident including a pool and restaurant. Bomba village(4.9km) also has a commune pool open during July and August and the village occupies a stunning hillside position overlooking the valley providing a spellbinding evening view from the house. Further across the Sangro Valley lie early prehistoric finds, an abundance of local museums and equally enchanting villages with their local crafts and produce well documented in the tourist guides. The bustling coastal city of Vasto with its old quarter is well worth exploring as is the town of Lanciano, with its spectacular festivals for Easter and September. For those with more energy there are watersports on Lago di Bomba, which is visible from the oliveyard, also there are opportunities for walking , mountain biking and trekking right from the front door. Families may wish to explore the water park at Vasto or closer to home, any of the three local swimming pools. Serious skiers could make their way to the ski resorts of Gamberale, Pizzoferrato and Roccaraso where prices are not inflated. All these facilities are easily reached within an hour of travel and some in only minutes. Some of our guests have determined to travel more widely and have journeyed within the day to both Pompei and Rome which is served by the local bus network from Lanciano or Villa Santa Maria.
