The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
The Costa Blanca, with its wonderful beaches attracts millions of tourists every year. In the north the Costa Blanca starts with Denia and Javea. two wonderful towns at the bottom of a mountain.
In the south the Costa Blanca goes down to Guardamar and Torrevieja, with such wonderful cities like the Elche, the palm tree capital of the world.
You can basically travel along the Costa Blanca as the Carretera National goes all way alongside the coast. Make sure when you come along these beautiful sometimes small villages looking for Costa Blanca Holiday Homes that you have enough time for a stay
There are many attractions alongside the Costa Blanca, some of them specially for tourists like the entertainment park Terra Mitica at Benidorm or the bays of Altea and Calpe. Others are smaller towns and villages like Villajoyosa just south of Benidorm, famous for its old town and its chocolate.
To me the biggest beauty of the Costa Blanca comes from the seavill. Its beaches along with its tiny villages give the Costa Blanca its unique attraction.
Torrevieja Town / Rosaleda/Los Locos area
The city of Torrevieja lies about 50 km south west of Alicante. You can reach Torrevieja via the road N 332, a wonderful road along the Costa Blanca.
If you have some time discover the beauty of the area via this road - you will love its views. Torrevieja marks a kind of language line between the traditional valencian/catalan in the north of the Costa Blanca and the Spanish wide Castellano Spanish.
Further in the south you will find more and more "Spanish-only" speaking people, while the area of Torrevieja and upwards is usually more bilingual (valencian and spanish).
The entire area around Torrevieja and Orihuela is famous for their salt production. Huge salt lakes surround the road down from Alicante.
It is impressive and fascinating every time I see the huge salt mountains producing annually more than half a million tons (it makes you respect your way you will use your salt and pepper next time). So if you visit the area of Torrevieja spend some time on your way to it.
The city gets its name from an old tower (old=vieja ; tower=torre), was first mentioned around 1800. It became famous in 1802, when it took over the salt administration from Orihuela. Apart from the salt industry, tourism and fishing keep the city alive. The harbour. surrounded by many Torrevieja hotels, gives home to 300 fishing ships and over 900 private sport boats. A wonderful view especially when sun sets.
From a sightseeing point of view you best start your way exploring Torrevieja by foot beginning at the harbour. Along with Church of "la inmaculata conception" a visit to the museum of sea and salt (museo del mar y sal) and the fish market.
How to get there
Torrevieja is a mere 30km from San Javier, Murcia airport or 45km from Alicante airport.
Direct flights are available to Murcia or Alicante through airlines such as: Easyjet Aer Lingus FlyBMI RyanAIr Jet2.com
However we recommend using a flight price compaison website such as www.skyscanner.net to help choose the most feasible airline for you.
The apartment is a 45 minute transfer from either airport. Pickup facilities and welcome pack are available upon request. Car hire is available from both airports. Should you decide to use your own transport, arrangements can be made for key collection. However we believe car hire is not necessary due to the excellent and readily available public transport facilities within Torrevieja town.
Should you decide to venture beyond Torrevieja Town, cheap car hire is available and recommended through www.carjet.com, as it offers excellent prices all year round.
