The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
Situated on the south east coast of mainland Spain, the Costa Blanca is renowned for it's sandy white beaches and warm Mediterranean climate. Steeped in history and boasting beautiful mountain views, sweet fragrance orange groves and glistening waters, this picturesque Valencian province has something for everyone.
You certainly won't be short of things to explore on the Costa Blanca, whether you wish to delve into it's history and culture or reveal the untold mysteries of the deep blue Mediterranean.
Alicante is a coastal university city with an impressive harbour and a tree lined promenade. One of it's main attractions is it's ancient mountaintop castle (Castillo de Santa Barbara), although keen shoppers will revel in it's quaint boutiques and grand department stores.
The ancient town of Alicante extends itself along the curve of its busy port. The Romans called it Lucentum - The City of Light - quite appropriately for the acknowledged tourist capital of the White Coast, which has supplied generations of visitors with their first enticing impression of Spain.
Alicante, like most of the towns on the Costa Blanca, hosts an array of restaurants and bars with prices that won't break the budget, so you certainly won't go hungry here!
Torrevieja area / La Florida area
Torrevieja has, in recent years, grown to be one of the most popular and important centres on the Mediterranean sea for residential tourism. No "package" tours come to this area. Torrevieja's seafront offers a lot of restaurants, tapas bars and street cafes on the very wide promenade which popular for the “Spanish evening stroll”. If you simply wish to relax and soak up the rays, then head for one of Torrevieja's sandy white beaches which have been awarded the EC's "Blue Flag" status so you can ensure safe bathing and quality recreation facilities for you and your family. There are beaches at Playa de los Locos, Cala del Palangre, Playa del Cura, Paseo Marítimo Juan Aparicio and Playa de los Náufragos.
Take advantage of Torrevieja's magnificent Friday market which sells everything from fruit and vegetables to housing accessories and gifts. There is an indoor market in the town centre open daily for fish, vegetables and meat. Fresh seafood and fish can be bought daily at the port of Torrevieja. In fact, why not make a day of it and "shop until you drop" in Torrevieja's many boutiques or the new Habernas shopping centre with H&M, C&A, Zara, Puma, etc. For the kids, we have McDonalds, Burger King, KFC or the ten pin bowling, amusement centre, sports centre with Olympic sized pool, etc.
Each month Torrevieja celebrates a different Festival, or 'Fiesta' with a riot of colour, tradition, music and dance, including 'la Habanera' a special rejoicing of Torrevieja's sailing history and early salt trade days with Cuba. 'Ancient tower' is its translation and it is on the north side of the town overlooking the sea with recently restored gardens.
Local to Torrevieja are two large natural saltwater lagoons, known as "las Salinas", the largest in Europe. The concentration of salt in these picturesque lagoons helps to draw the moisture out of the air. This, combined with the very low annual rainfall, creates the unique microclimate with low humidity. With most days being sunny, and with an average temp of 18 degrees centigrade, make this area ideal for sufferers of rheumatism, arthritis and asthma.
La Florida, in the area of Orihuela Costa, is less than a 10 minutes drive south of Torrevieja. It has a very multi-cultural feel as many people from other countries now live in this area and actually outnumber the Spaniards! This area is a favourite for British and Irish ex-pats. Consequently, the shops, bars and restaurants in this area originate from many nationalities to provide food to suit all tastes - from the native Spanish to Italian, French, German, Chinese, Indian, Korean, Scandinavian, Argentinian, Hungarian, Mexican cuisine, etc.
The Emerald Isle Irish entertainment centre is opposite the complex with two swimming pools, bowls greens, children's centre, nightly entertainment, Christmas dinners, etc.
5 minutes walk from the renowned Irish pub the Wicklow Arms / Abbey, which normally stays open until 3 or 4 in the morning most of the year, and other facilities in the La Florida commercial area (supermarket, bars, Chinese and other restaurants, bank, car hire, hairdressers, etc).
Less than 10 minute walk from Consum, large modern supermarket and Via Park 3 commercial centre with 2 floors of bars and restaurants.
25 minutes walk from Via Park 1, Via Park 2 and the Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre with the Lansdowne bar, Rosie O'Grady's, the Blues Brothers, Divas Indian restaurant, Spud Murphies and 3 floors of bars and restaurants. Nearby are familiar supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi and Supercor – the “Harrods” food hall of Spain.
There is a popular market on every Saturday morning in a wide road in nearby Playa Flamenca – within walking distance.
Nearby bus service into Torrevieja town, or various taxi ranks throughout the area.
The EU Blue Flag beaches at Playa Flamenca and La Zenia have vast expanses of golden sands and there are jet-ski’s, a banana boat and pedalo’s in the summer months, as well as the usual “bars on the beach”.
The property is 2 km from the beach - 5 minutes drive or 30 minutes walk. Car recommended for beach visits unless used to walking. Two hourly, day light hours local bus service between urbanisations and the beach. Only 1 euro per person getting on or off anywhere on the route. Ideal if you don't want to drive on holiday.
It is only a 10 minutes drive to golf courses of Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas.
Sports: Golf, cycling, diving, fishing, horse riding, paragliding, roller blading, sailing, surfing, swimming, tennis, walking, water skiing, wind-surfing, ten-pin bowling, jet ski, scuba diving, aqua park, sports complex, go-karting
We recommend a car to get the best out of any area but if all you want to do is relax, take in the sun and have meal and a drink in the evening, either in the property or in the nearby commercial centres, it is not essential due to the numerous facilities within walking distance.

Comments from Philip MacDonald after booking with us: "This whole booking process has been made so easy, by first of all, providing detailed and accurate information, and secondly, prompt and equally informative email response which drills down further into even more important detail. It has been a pleasure dealing with you and, as is normal with such high quality services, then this will lead to further bookings from myself and recommendations to others."
Jackie Barber says: "We have holidayed with Keith and Jan for the last four years and have rebooked for this year. We find the service that Keith and Jan provide excellent. The apartment is lovely inside and out, very clean and the decor is nice. Straight out onto a balcony on ground level where we can see the pool and keep an eye on our three boys. The area is great for any age, for either a quiet holiday lounging round the pool or going further a field to the many things to do locally. They provide a great holiday experience from when you book. Jan and Keith make it a very easy process and a very good holiday, and we have and would certainly recommend them to our friends and family.............THE HARGREAVES CLAN THAT KEEP RETURNING, FROM GUILDFORD!!!
