The Costa Blanca / Valencia / Alicante Province region
The Costa Blanca - South-eastern Spain - Without doubt a huge majority of visitors who travel to the Costa Blanca each year do so mainly to take advantage of the sun, the sea and the beaches, It would be a mistake however to think that this is all the Costa Blanca has to offer, a quick glance at a travel guide of the area will confirm that there are a great many places of interest to visit and enjoy.
Exactly where the Costa Blanca (White Coast) begins and ends is not clearly defined but the region comprises approximately 200 km of coastline stretching from Gandia in the north to Pilar de la Horadada in the south, it also takes in a large hinterland with areas of mountains, sierras, river valleys and natural parks. The area to the north of Gandia is called the Costa del Azahar (Orange Blossom Coast) and the area to the south of Pilar is known as the Costa Calida (Warm Coast).
The entire Costa Blanca region has a rich and distinguished history and many artefacts have been found dating back to the Neolithic Era. Lying as it does in an important strategic position on the Mediterranean coastline, the Costa Blanca has been invaded and occupied by various important civilizations including Phoenicians, Greeks, Romans, Visigoths, Carthaginians and Moors. Each civilization has left its own identity on the region and each has resulted in significant cultural and religious consequences for the indigenous population. Perhaps the greatest influences on the region were caused during the Roman and Arab occupations, which both moulded the areas subsequent history.
A different kind of invasion occurred during the 20th Century - that of tourism, and this has probably resulted in the most rapid and dramatic changes in the Costa Blanca’s history so far. A huge amount of development has taken place and the economy of the region has undergone sweeping changes. Towns and villages which formerly relied on fishing, agriculture and salt production now rely almost entirely on tourism and related industries and many new jobs have been created, increasing the wealth of the region and its inhabitants.
The main attraction for holidaymakers (especially north Europeans) is of course the wonderful climate, with over 300 days of sunshine each year and very low rainfall, it is the perfect location for a relaxing summer holiday or a well earned winter break. Sunshine is virtually guaranteed from May to October so it is not necessary to confine visits to the popular months of July and August. In the months of December and January the Costa Blanca normally enjoys some beautiful sunny days, so it is a great place to take a break away from the dismal weather of the UK and other north European countries.
The Costa Blanca has some of the best beaches in Spain and they are usually very well cared for and safe, there are a large number of ‘blue flag’ beaches and these are normally cleaned every day and will often have life-guards on duty during the busy summer months. Some of the more popular beaches can get busy during July and August but if you take some time to explore a little, you may find quiet and isolated beaches even during the high season.
Overall the Costa Blanca has much to offer holidaymakers and tourists of all types, fine beaches for sun lovers, ancient towns and cities for culture lovers and wonderful natural parks for nature lovers. Try a visit some time soon and enjoy a little of what the Costa Blanca has to offer.
Torrevieja area / San Luis District
In front of our villa is La Mata natural park with all its lovely walks and scenery. Behind our vila, a short walk will take you to the local bars, restaurants and supermarkets. A bus service runs every half hour to Torrevieja. There always seems to be a fiesta on somewhere local where you can enjoy the festivities and enjoy the atmosphere only the Spanish can create. Just look in one of the many free 'English' papers for what's happening during your visit. They also have details of all local market days.
5 minutes away is the new Habaneras shopping centre with 3 stories of shops. Next to the shopping centre is a cinema showing English films, tenpin bowling, amusement arcade, casino and many bars and restaurants. Torrevieja sea front has a new modern promenade with 2 marinas, funfair and much more to see and do. Boat trips are available from the marina, and on the beach there are jet skis, wind surfing, scuba diving, snorkelling, sailing and fishing.
Also within 15 minutes of the villa there are 3 aquaparks and 2 championship golf courses. There really is enough to keep any family entertained for the duration of their stay. We should know, we've been on holiday here for nearly 3 years non stop now.
How to get there
Fly into Alicante or Murcia. Our villa is just 35 minute from Alicante airport or Murcia airport. Many budget airlines fly to these destinations including Ryanair, Easyjet, Flybe and Jet2. A good search site is skyscanner.com We can arrange airport transfers for you but if you would like a car to rent I would suggest carjet or economycar, both are good sites.

GUEST COMMENTS: 10/10/09 ANDY & BECKY, BRISTOL What a wonderful villa and pool. Lovely to have so much space. Very well equipped and great to have so many films to watch and books to read. We had a really relaxing time and were so blessed with the weather 2/10/09 TREVOR, CHRISTINE, JAMIE, ANGE & KEV Our holiday for 2 weeks was absolutely fantastic (shame about quite a bit of rain and thunder storms) The villa is great, nice and clean and everything catered for. Lovely setting and great pool. couldn't have asked for more. Thanks Darron and Venny. P.S. The TV could have been bigger. Ha ! Ha! just kidding X 19/9/09 DEREK, SHIONA, JAN & JENNIFER. Loved the villa. Played lots of pool, had lots of BBQs. All in all a great holiday. 5/9/09 THE GORDON FAMILY Fantastic villa, fantastic facilities, had a brilliant holiday. I had a wonderful time in your villa, really enjoyed the whole series of Only Fools and Horses. and good time playing pool and going in the pool everyday. Thank you so much. 24/8/09 STEVE, MARKK, ANGELA & LANA We had a great stress break whilst staying at this wonderful villa. Great having the pool for those necessary dips in the baking sunshine. Had some nice runs in the nature park opposite but the heat made it tough. Super villa, super time, how can you not enjoy. 10/8/09 JULIE MARK & BEN What a fantastic villa, it's so big and has so much in it that it's been difficult to leave it and go out and explore. I don't think that we could have asked for a better place to stay and have had a really wonderful time. The advert didn't cover everything that's in this villa but I guess there wasn't enough room to list everything. Suffice to say that we could have easily spent the whole week in the villa. 31/7/09 THE HUNTER FAMILY Had a great holiday at this beautiful villa (the photos don't do it justice). It has everything and more that you could need for a relaxing family holiday. The children aged 13, 11 and 7 had a ball in the pool and playing snooker.
18/7/09 THE DUNN FAMILY, GLASGOW We had a fabulous family holiday. Late afternoons and early evenings were filled with a daily sports tournament (french bouilles, pool and dominoes) and was real quality family time. The decor and quality of the villa are first class as is the layout of the outside area. Great walks round about. I am sure we will be back soon.
13/6/09 TESS, DAVID, STEVE, RACHEL, STEVE & LOUISE. Lincolnshire. U.K Fantastic villa, everything you need for a relaxing holiday in the sun. This villa feels more like a home than a holiday rental. We would all highly recommend this home. Although I do feel the TV could be slightly bigger!! Ha Ha. Thanks for a great holiday.
5/6/09 BRIAN, JANE, SOPHIE, KIMILY, JONATHON & IZZY. had a wonderful relaxing holiday. The villa is beautiful & it was an effort to leave it to go out and about. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. Amazing time, villa is gorgeous, would love to stay longer.
23/05/2009 MARK & JAN GODFREY, RUSTINGTON, ENGLAND. Darron & Venny got us out of a large hole by letting us have their house at very short notice for 12 glorious days. We spent all our time by the pool & chilling out in the sun loungers. Best of all the beds are so comfortable. Thanks Darron & Venny.
