Torrevieja area / La Florida area
Torrevieja is situated in the south-east of Spain, More specifically 41 kms south of Alicante. Twenty years ago it was still a small fishing village, but nowadays Torrevieja is a perfect holiday town with all kinds of attractions for tourists. This area is well known for the beautiful beaches and the fact that here we have many different nationalities. The town is situated close to the sea and between two large saltlakes, which are the largest in Europe, these provide great healing properties and together with the warm climate, people love to live in this part of Spain. In the Torrevieja area you can find a large walking boulevard overlooking the harbour and marina, local market, music theatre, town square, large sport centre and lots of beaches, nature reserves and seaside walks along a vast stretch of the town. In the area of La Florida you are very near the beach areas of Playa Flamenca and La Zenia, this is a friendly neighbourhood with many citizens from all over western europe. So here you will find shops, bars and restaurants to suit all tastes, from Chinese, Indian, Scandanavian, Argentina and Mexican etc. The apt is situated very close to the coast and you have great transport links to several major cities, including Alicante and Murcia, you may also pick up the Train from Alicante which will take you anywhere within Spain, Portugal and into France. La Florida belongs to Orihuela Costa. It is situated close to Torrevieja. It is a nice and friendly neighbourhood. Because a lot of people live there permantly the whole year there is always life in the streets. Though the citizens original come from all kinds of Western-European countries most people speak English. It’s favourite for British and Irish ex-pats. Consequently, the shops, bars and restaurants in this area originate from many nationalities to provide food to suit all tastes - from the native Spanish to Italian, French, German, Chinese, Indian, Korean, Scandinavian, Argentinian, Hungarian, Mexican cuisine, etc. A lot of neighbourhoods are outside the season very quit or even too silent. That’s not in La Florida. The apartment is only a few minutes drive away from the N332, the coastroad and close by the highway. That’s why, within less minutes, you can enjoy lots of tourist attractions in one day. There is so much to see and do that, even you would go a whole month every day out, you don’t have time enough to visit them all. Around the corner of the block of the apartment you find in the commercial centre La Florida a supermarket with every morning fresh-baked bread and newspapers from all over Europe. Besides several usefull shops you find there internet, a hairdresser, a bank, carrental, etc. Several restaurants and bars with terraces have all kinds of food. Also you find here the wellknown Irish Pub “the Abbey” with a large garden terrace. It has live music in the weekend and daily during season. It’s open until late in the night.
5 minutes walk from the apartment you find the Emerald Isle Irish entertainment centre. It has two swimming pools surrounded by large grassed sunbathing areas. You can sit and relax around the pool all day (small cost for hire of sunbeds and use of pools). There are children's play areas with the ball park and bouncy castle available for a small cost. The restaurant and bar are open all day, serving hot/cold food, either inside or outdoors. There is nightly outdoorentertainment in the summer. There are daily activities such as aerobics (in the pool when warm enough), Tai Chi classes, line dancing, scuba diving lessons, bingo and there is a table top market on Sunday morning.
It’s a 10 minute walk from the Consum, a large modern supermarket and 15 minutes from Via Park 3 commercial centre with 2 floors of bars and restaurants. It’s a 25 minutes walk from Via Park 1, Via Park 2 and the Flamenca Beach Commercial Centre with the Lansdowne bar, Rosie O'Grady's, the Blues Brothers, Divas Indian restaurant, Spud Murphies and 3 floors of bars and restaurants. Nearby are familiar supermarkets such as Lidl, Aldi and Supercor - the "Harrods" food hall of Spain. Every saturdaymorning there is a popular market in a wide road nearby Playa Flamenca. This is within walking distance too.
The EU Blue Flag beaches at Playa Flamenca and La Zenia have vast expanses of golden sands and there are jet-ski's, a banana boat and pedalo's in the summer months, as well as the usual "bars on the beach". The apartment is about 2 km from the beach. A 5-minutes drive or a 30-minutes walk. A car is recommended for beachvisits unless you are used to walking. In season, two hourly, during daylight hours drives a local busservice between urbanisations and the beach. Only 1 euro per person getting on or off anywhere on the route. Ideal if you don't want to drive on holiday.
It is only a 10 minutes drive to the golfcourses of Villamartin, Campoamor and Las Ramblas.

We recommend a car to get the best out of any area, but if all you want to do is relax, lay in the sun, have a meal and a drink in the evening, either in the property or in the nearby commercial centres, it is not essential due to the numerous facilities within walking distance.

The nearest airports are Alicante (Alicante airport is situated about 11 km south from the city of Alicante at El Altet) and Murcia (Murcia’s San Javier Airport is located about 56kms from the city).
