10 months of the year (February to November) you will generally not need your coat! Even January and December can be extremely pleasant and why not spend Christmas in your own apartment in Spain. (Special rates apply) - The spring and summer are very hot and the use of the outdoor pool during the months of June, July, August and September is a must.
THE HISTORY OF CARTAMA The city has existed since Phoenician and Roman era, and its municipal boundaries stretch from the sierra of the same name to the banks of the River Guadalhorce, most of the region within them being devoted to agriculture, notably olives, almonds, fruit and vegetables. Monuments of interest include Saint Peter’s Church and Virgen de los Remedios Chapel, the latter, built on the site of a former mosque, attracting pilgrims from all over the region. History Phoenicians settled alongside local tribes and gave the settlement the name "Cartha", meaning "hidden place". Romans later christened the village "Cartima", fortifying the location which, standing atop a rugged hill 427 metres in height, provided a magnificent natural vantage point offering views of part of the Guadalhorce Valley to the north. The Roman town of Cartama was one of the most important in what is now the province of Malaga, already enjoying official town status in 195 B.C.
Cartama was also important during the Moslem occupation, given the strategic nature of its location and the fertility of the surrounding land. The Arabs renovated and rebuilt the castle, turning it into one of the finest military bastions in the area.
It was captured by troops under the Catholic Monarchs in 1485. This conflict was immortalised by the Mozarabic wood carvers responsible for the bas-reliefs which adorn the choir of Toledo Cathedral, which can still be seen today.
Granada, Cordoba and the Coastal regions (Marbella, Torremolinos, Benalmaden and Mijas) are all easily reached by car. The British Governed Gibralta is only one and a half hours away by car (don't forget to take your passport!).
Torremolinos / Cartama Campo area
El Chorro gorge - a beautuful area of lakes and mountains. Take a drive out and swim in the clear blue lakes, its less than an hour by car.
Malaga Ferria (festivals and carnivals) takes place in August. This is the larges ferria in all of Spain and is a must to visit. The local festival in Cartama, a family occasion, takes place in April and September.
Sangsters bar El Greco is the owners bar, which is in the village of Estacion de Cartama, only five minutes away from the finca. Here we serve local and international wines, beers and spirits and have a full and varied English menu available every day.
Horse Riding: We are able to recommend local stables for keen horse riders or beginners.
Golf: Parador del Golf is 25 minutes from the finca and easily accessible on the motorway.

Guestbook
Lovely apartment in beautiful location. We had a wonderful time exploring the mountain regions and the typical villages of Andalucia. The local beach at Churriana was lovely (and not too commercialised). We will certainly be revisiting Finca Mariposa!
We were delighted when we reached Finca Mariposa to find that our apartment was totally self-contained and had all of the facilities we needed for a perfect, relaxing break. It was so different from coastal Spain and our hosts, Tom & Jo were very informative regarding local restaurants, sight-seeing etc. Thank you!
