orremolinos es un municipio español situado en la provincia de Málaga, en la costa mediterránea de la comunidad autónoma de Andalucía. Es la cabeza del partido judicial homónimo y está integrado en la comarca de la Costa del Sol Occidental, la mancomunidad de municipios del mismo nombre y el área metropolitana de Málaga.3

Está situado en la Costa del Sol, en la orilla occidental de la Bahía de Málaga y a espaldas de la Sierra de Mijas. Se encuentra a una altitud de 49 msnm4 y a 13 km de Málaga, la capital de provincia. Está comunicado mediante la autovía A-7, que circunvala la ciudad por el norte, así como por tren de cercanías.

En el año 2010 contaba con 66.957 habitantes, que lo convierten en el sexto municipio más poblado de la provincia. Su término municipal tiene una superficie de 20 kilómetros cuadrados4 y una densidad de población de 3.153,85 hab/km², que se multiplica durante los meses de verano.

En los años 50, Torremolinos, una pequeña pedanía de pescadores que, desde 1924, formaba parte de la ciudad de Málaga, se convierte en uno de los principales destinos turísticos de sol y playa de España, el primero de Andalucía. La afluencia de extranjeros y turistas en general durante los años 60 y 70 creó un ambiente liberal, permisivo y cosmopolita que lo diferenciaba de otras zonas de la Costa del Sol. En 1988 se segregó de la ciudad de Málaga, constituyéndose en municipio.5
