The Catalunia region
Torredembarra, located in the heart of the Costa Dorada, is an attractive and inviting place for visitors, either in the good times of winter or the dynamic summer. From its traces of ancient Roman remains to its ultramodern marina, Torredembarra offers a wide variety of cultural and sporting opportunities, a rich gastronomy, leisure and entertainment... and an absolutely unbeatable climate and situation.
The promenade takes us from the varied commercial and restaurant areas of the marina to the typical fishing port area and, a little further on, to the protected natural area of salt marshes and sand dunes, a nature reserve which well deserves a visit.
The sea influences the local gastronomy, in which the fruits of the fishing industry predominate.. "Romescos", "asmarris", "alls cremats", "xatons", "bulls", "suquets", "arrossos"... they form another magical tradition which must be tried, without forgetting the better known components of the Mediterranean diet. The climate favors the local nightlife: the terraces are the anterooms of the enclosed premises for music and dancing. By day the possibilities are also varied: starting with the beach -long, wide and of fine sand-, there are sporting and nautical activities of all types, cultural visits, shopping and commercial areas and picturesque sightseeing tours... it offers a complete range of opportunities where everybody can find his own magic sense of the Mediterranean, of the people and their history.
Come and see it for yourself! Torredembarra, a sea of magic
Stretching from Calafell, before Tarragona, the old Roman city, down to the tranquil Delta de l'Ebro, the ?osta Dorada runs along the Mediterranean coast of Catalonia in north-eastern Spain. It's a varied region encompassing beautiful beaches, interesting history, nature reserves, and some of Spain's best vineyards.
The most important town of the region is Tarragona, capital of the providence of the same name. It was one of the most important cities of the Roman Empire, and you can walk along the ancient defense walls, visit the amphitheatre or explore underneath the Roman Circus.
If it's sun and sand you're after, head to Salou, a flashy, modern resort town, or nearby Cambrils, which is quieter and has managed to keep the feel of the fishing village it once was. A bit farther north, La Pineda is a family resort and also has nice beaches.
At the region's southern border is the Natural Park of the Ebro River Delta, where you'll find beautiful marine habitats where water fowl congregate. There are no big towns or much activity, and a visit to the area makes for a peaceful getaway from the glamour of resorts up the coast.
The interior is hilly and much of it is covered with vineyards that sit along terraces carved into the slate rock of the hillsides. The view is more than picturesque, but it's the result of backbreaking manual labour. You can visit several wineries in the Priorat, Montsant or Terra Alta denominations of origin.
If you like wandering cobblestone streets and peering into old stone churches, explore towns like Falset, Tivissa and Miravet. Tortosa, which like Miravet sits on the Ebro River, has a large historic centre and is worth a stroll too. A visit to the area's Cistercian monasteries is a must: Poblet, still a working monastery, Santes Creus, and Montblanc are magical places with beautiful medieval architecture and important cultural influence.
Activities Costa Dorada
Without a doubt, beach-laying and water sports are the prime activities along the coast. Boating (there is an excellent port in Cambrils) is popular here, and you can hire sailboats, motorboats or jet skis.
If you're water-logged and sand-clogged, there are plenty of other things to keep busy. Inland, you can walk around the vineyards of the Priorat; there are some good, though hilly, biking trails here too. Closer to the water, the flat delta of the Ebro river is an excellent place for long-distance biking past water fowl, rice fields and bogs. Kids may want to head to one of the area water parks or to Port Aventura, a popular theme park run by Universal Studios, and adults can hit one of the golf courses near the coast. For something more adventuresome, you can explore the small mountain range just inland, the Sierra de Prades. The limestone cliffs here offer thrilling climbing.
Port Aventura Golf
The Golf Centre Sant Jaume is one of the pioneers of the Pitch& Putt in the province . It has a course of 9 holes and conserves all the elements of the beautiful environment that surrounds it.
The North Course, designed by Greg Norman, is harmoniously integrated with its surroundings: lagoons, an immense wetland and the Sèquia Major.
With each stroke, the course gives the player the chance to appreciate the area´s natural scenery. Port Aventura Golf has restored the original landscape, and the 18 holes blend seamlessly with the wetlands and the Sèquia Major, named an Area of Natural Interest by the Generalitat of Catalonia.
It is an exciting round that will allow golfers to know what it feels like to play holes that require stroke strategy and precision on a course that can be won by overcoming obstacles with extreme caution.
Designed by Greg Norman, the Centre Course is a living example of a Mediterranean landscape that has endured for thousands of years. The course is located on the highest part of the resort, where ancient olive and carob trees were kept, now replanted by PortAventura Golf to restore the original landscape.
Contemplate the Roman and medieval structures uncovered during excavations to find the peace required for the most precise strokes.
The Centre Course is a par 34, 9 hole round and is designed for all types of players.

"Comfortable and in a perfect location"
This apartment is very well located in Torredembarra, offering easy access to walk to the beach while being centrally located in the town for all of the evening activities. There is no swimming pool, but with the beach only a short walk away, we found we didn't miss it. The balcony looks out over an orchard and swimming pool for another building, so even though you are centrally located in the town, there is little road noise and a very enjoyable view from the balcony. It's located on the 2nd floor, and there is a relatively large lift which easily accommodates 6 people. The beds were comfortable, kitchen was fully stocked, including a dishwasher, washing machine and even a very handy shopping trolley. We enjoyed the many wonderful restaurants in Torredembarra and strolling with the locals along the beachfront promenade every evening. There are two large supermarkets within a very easy walking distance from the apartment, and a pharmacy literally on the doorstep, so we found that we did not need a car. The trains travel to Torredembarra about once an hour from Barcelona, and it was easy to get from Barcelona airport to the apartment by train. Overall, wonderful holiday in a quiet and relaxing apartment, hope to return.

"Amazing apartment, great location - I absolutely recommend this place"
What a great apartment! I stayed here with my partner for 2 weeks in July 2013. When I first walked into the apartment, I was surprised at how big it was. I've stayed in holiday rentals previously that said they slept 6 but were tiny and would only realistically fit 3-4, but this apartment is genuinely large and would comfortably sleep 6.
The apartment has everything you would want for a beach holiday - there's a whole closet full of boogie boards, bucket and spade, frisbee (which we left behind for good holiday karma!), lounge chairs and more.
As far as comfort goes, the apartment is well-equipped with a full kitchen, the whole range of plates, glasses and cutlery, chairs for sitting out on the balcony, etc. There's a tv and dvd player, as well as WIFI, but we did not use these as we wanted to fully unplug for the 2 weeks. They looked to be in a full working order, and I would image they would be helpful if you're a family entertaining kids in the evenings.
I have a few very small things to note:
1. The picture in the ad shows a balcony view of a swimming pool, but this apartment does not have access to the pool - now, on rereading the description I fully accept that the ad does not say pool access, but it was a small disappointment when I figured out none of the keys would get me into the pool as it looked so refreshing.
2. The ad says there's no need for air conditioning as the apartment is airy and bright. Now, that may be true in the evening when the sun has moved to the other side of the building and all the doors and windows were open, but I found the apartment to be very warm when trying to sleep at night (temperatures during our stay were between 28-35C). My discomfort probably could have been helped by leaving the doors and windows open at night, but I was not comfortable doing this. In my opinion, air conditioning would make this apartment a perfect 10.
Moving on to Torredembarra:
This is a great seaside location for a quiet beach holiday. There is a selection of bars and restaurants, with average dinners of tapas and sangria costing around €25-35, moving up to €80 for one very fancy restaurant where we splurged on lobster paella - totally worth it. There's also a lovely promenade going the whole way down the beach, which is great to walk down in the evenings.
We went up to Barcelona for one night which was very easy to do given the apartment is 2 minute walk from the train station. We also went to Tarragona 2 evenings for dinner. One of the best days we had was Port Aventura - my recommendation is to pay extra (if you can afford it) and get the express pass so you can skip all the lines!
I hope you found this review helpful. As I said at the start, this is an amazing apartment and a great location - I absolutely recommend this place!
